I was just wondering who hunts IL. and what part of the state. I hunt in Kankakee county 60 miles south of Chicago.

I am here in central Illinois. Mainly Livingston county but sometimes I wonder over to Ford. But I wouldn't really call what I have done this year hunting. I got about 2 weeks to get my first kill. It isn't looking good for me!!

Mainly hunt in Fulton County, but take an annual hunting trip to Adams/Brown County (Siloam Springs State Park).

hunt4hobbie, I am from MO. but do most of my bowhunting in Southern IL. I do all of my hunting in Johnson and Pope counties. I have been hunting up there for about 10 years and hope to continue hunting there but if the nonresident permits keep going up I guess I will just have to stay home and hunt.<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

I hunt mainly on the Crab Orchard Refuge, private land in Williamson, Pope, and Union Counties.

Hey bowhuntin1 you ever hunt the La Rue Pines area. I have always wanted to try that area but have never scouted much out there. I have seen a few wall hangers while driving through the gravel roads back there.

i live in marseilles ( north central illinois ),bow hunt in dekalb and shabbona, and gun/bow hunt in golconda/ pope county. just moved out here not too long ago. i will probably try some hunting at the national guard base here, as well as heideke in morris. hunt4hobbie, do you hunt at the state park there? i hunted pheasant there about 6 yrs ago, and i work down there once in a while

i mostly hunt Macoupin,Jersy,and Alexander countys. i also hunt at Dixon Springs State Park or at least camp there and hunt Shawnee Nat. Forest.
i live in Macoupin county.
It would be cool if a bunch of us could hook up in Oct. sit around a fire and hunt during the day. I would be willing to share my spot in Shawnee. Just a thought.

well i found a nice oak ridge. i killed 2 does and a friend killed 1 in the same weekend on that ridge. one of the guys that i was with bought a plat map and it showed private property and the forest. He bought it at the convience store right before you get to the park. They have big bags of ice there also. The others killed 1, in different places and there were a lot of stories/sightings. i really ticked them off because they drove quite a way from the park and i was only 5 min away and a 100 yard walk. But the group only got 4. They were bumming but i thought that was pretty good. i deffinatly have plans on going back. if you are that close maybe we can hook up in Oct. when the acorns are dropping. i also hunt a little south of there in a little town of Tamms. I found a 2 to 3 acre patch of mature oaks in the middle of a been field and it is a magnet during the middle of Oct. when the acorns are droping

George_s, I do not hunt the state park but I do know alot of people
who do, and do very well. You will have to get a permit next Sept. but you will have to have your tags with you. The Anti hunters were taking all the permits over the years. You can hunt both sides of the river. I work over by Heideke and there are alot of deer there. There is a archery range on the 102 side of the state park that has 30 targets in the woods and a deer stand to shoot out of.

If you know of any kids who want to hunt there is a youth hunt held here by our park district. There are alot of deer there and they will see deer there every time out it has'nt been hunted in 20 years.

Sure thing jimmya, Ive got access to some private ground also we could hunt. Its right off Wildcat Bluff road off of 146 near West Vienna. Ill get in touch with ya next October.

The youth hunt is bow only. The age is 15 and under we have one boy who is only 9 years old. You have to have a hunters safty course and shoot a deer target three times in the kill at 15 yards. So far they have taken seven deer and one P&Y that wieghed 237lbs. It starts on Nov. first until the end of the season.

hc4runner, I also hunt in pope county. I hunted it for three years
and took one nice 10 pointer and seen many nice bucks but not enough time to get on them in 5 days. The last year I went, there were so many people they were walking all over the woods. So I packed it up and went home. I seen more people than deer.

Not too bad if you can avoid the anti-crowd....

Unfortunately, many - if not most of our big bucks are completely nocturnal. Have trail cam pictures of big wall-hangers, but all are of them a night.
