I'm not sure I understand the point to this thread? It's almost like class envy. Yes location is a big factor in the frequency of killing big bucks when comparing apples to apples. I think most would, and have agreed about that. So if that is excepted what is the point of the thread? To convince those who live in good areas they aren't as good of hunters as they think? What's the point in that? They do take advantage of the areas they are in and I don't think that can be said of every hunter in great deer country. I'm sure there are plenty of hunters in Big Buck areas that couldn't find a big buck if it was tied to a tree. There are also hunters who don't do all the right things all the time to make it happen. So they do have a level of competence above the average, even for their area, but not necessarily for this site, although some may be light years ahead of the average hunter on this site, I don't know. But, again, what is the point? If all that is true and accepted, what difference does it make? What difference will it make in how YOU hunt? If the success of others, and their resulting attitudes/assumptions/comments grate your nerves that much.....well then you're just giving others too much control in your life. If it matters that much then do something about it and go hunt where big bucks are like many others do. If it doesn't matter THAT much then why post this at all?

BTW I live in an area with decent bucks but nowhere like out west. I've seen maybe a dozen BIG bucks and, to be honest, blown most of my opportunities or they were close-but-not-close-enough. So I'm not defending my record. LOL

RE: For those that don't think location or numbers matter
Show me where I have said even one time that I am not happy with the land I hunt..........just once.
You enjoy hunting100% for sure. You love to whine about others for some reason. Example I will never shoot the deer Wolfen68 shoots. Matter of time and I do not have it. I also don't care what Wolfen, Buckeye, Hunsucker, Shed33 or anyone else shoots. Go check your post I have done nothing but made nice comments when you post a deer you have taken. In this very thread I have said you are 100% correct. Where we differ I do not post thread after thread of why I do not kill a certain type of deer.
Like you I have hunted high pressure areas, Northern MI is one of the toughest place to shoot a deer. Do you think I wait for 140'' buck Nope 100'' is great.
Why am I hunting in Ohio and KY this year instead of N. Michigan? I want to try and shoot a booner. I am hunting where the booners are. Yes they are on my farm, but my odds are better in Ohio. Therefore I am willing to pay the $ for a lease to give it a go. Some are not I understand.
You are happy we know, I know if we met in a bar we would talk hunting all day long. We would agree on 99.9% of things.
You post the same tired dribble post after post. Funny you want guys to leave you alone about what you kill, but you want to cheapin their kills by posting it is all about location.
You know what it is, its about location and hard work. Same damn thing you do for your deer.
We have had some debate on this subject. I do not recall ever telling you to shoot "a" type ofdeer, some guys do, so what. If you are happy than be happy. You are proud of your deer you shoot which is why you have some mounted, take pictures, and write a wonderful thread about deer you have taken.
So I am willing to meet in the middle, lets just be happy.
Atlas I am happy for you, now I promise my daughter to take her to the water park.
Good hunting. If you want to hunt Ohio let me know. I even told everyone else I know, no, but for you anytime and bring your dad. Rybo is coming over my house for dinner next weekPM him about my cooking

It's not just "a" factor it's the primary factor. I have bowhunted many years here in Alabama and I have an opportunity at a true wall hanger maybe once every 5 years. And that's on land I know like the back of my hand and have hunted all my life. I have made three trips up to Illinois to hunt with friends on private farm land up there. No guide, and only a few days to scout on land that is totally strange to me. Yet, I have seen more large racked bucks in three trips up there thanI have in the last 25 years of hunting down here. I killed a huge 8 point (my best bow buck ever) first year up that went to the taxidermist. I tagged a nice buck 2nd year and killed another one for the wall my 3rd year up. On two of the trips I had close encounters with bucks that were easily 170 or better. I saw 15 shooter bucks (and lord knows how many smaller ones) in one two day span from the same tree. And all that was with less than a week to hunt each trip. If I lived up there and had the time to scout just a little more and could be more patient about filling my tag it's scarey to think what I could drag out of those woods. Now, am I mystically transforming into a great hunter in route to Illinois and then back to an average one while in Alabama or could "Location" be making a huge difference?
I'm not arguing that location isn't a factor.
Doesn't get any clearer then that.

Talondale, I agree with you. What is the point? Everyone knows that you can only kill what exists, and the liklihood of killing big bucks is proportionate to the amount of them that exist in any particular area.
This is not nuclear physics!
Now why is it that certain area's hold a greater percentage of big bucks than others.Onlya fewreasons come to mind,Game department management, where seasons are shorter, and firearms use is more limited, and buck tags are restricted.Private land Trophy management.Area's that are extremely vast, where the animals are protected by the effort needed to get to them.Lastly would be hunter discipline.
Not all area's of the country will have the same potential but any one of the above will lead to the biggest bucks an area can support.
There is no point to this though! This is common knowledge to everyone here.

1. You have to have them
2. You have to work hard
I think you will agree if youhave them or not you have to do number 2 to consistantly kill whitetails.
