sight pin intervals

I'm a new bowhunter wondering how you guys set up your 3 pin sights. What should I make the first interval? And how much space in between pins?
My hunting area won't allow much over a 40 yard shot so I was thinking about 12 yds, 24 yds, and 36 yds for my pins. Is this a good way to go? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Well when I was using my old Antique Bow I had it set at 10-20- and 30 yards....but when I got my new Jennings Bow it shot the same at 10-20 yards so I have it set at 20-30 and 40 yards because it is a faster and better Bow!

I think it is a lot easier to use rounded numbers divisible by 5 or 10. The less thinking in the woods you have to do the better. I have mine set at 25 35 45. In your case, if your bow varies between 10-20 yards, I would go 10, 20, 30.....if you could get by with the same pin at 10 as you do at 20, then I would set them up at 20 30 40 or possibly 15 25 35...It is really a personal preference and whatever you feel comfortable with. Just make it easy enough to where it comes second nature to you when you are in the field. The last thing you want to do is get crossed up on which pin to use when that bruiser buck is standing at 30 yards broadside.

I hunt in northern california and our shots can go up to 100 yards so alot of my hunting buddies have sights up to 90 yards at 10 yard incs starting with 20. me i have sights up to 60 yards at 10 yrd incs from 20. so what im trying to say is start with just about the closest you think you will be shooting and go up from there. I would do 10 yard incraments because unless you have a lazer range finder you will only have an aprox distance adit is easier to judge by 10s not spesifics

90 yards?????[:-][:-]Wow, or do you mean 90 feet? That is one hell of a long shot for a bow. Heck, that is a long shot for a ML or shotgun slug. I hope they only practice at that distance and not shoot at deer that far away.

Try starting at 20.Bows now are fast enough that a 20 yd. pin will take care of anything out to that distance with little deviation (an inch or lessup or down) which you can correct (you still need to practice judgeing yardages) with your pin placement when shooting.

If no one has told you yet make sure you shoot from very close out to 10 to see which pin you'll need in very close situations. Example: I can still use my20yd. pin at 5 yds but 4,3 and 2 (sounds close but you have to do it) requires the 30 yd. pin.
