Bowhunting outerwear........
I really don't want to get into discussion on patterns here. Honestly patterns really mean little to me, what I am most interested in is an article of clothing that will keep me warm, dry, functional, and allow me to layer whatever I need under it for 99% of my hunting conditions. If it's really bitter cold, I already have a good insulated coverall I can use so thats not important,I am most interested in a pants/jacket or bib/jacket combo that I can use for hunting in temps from the high 50's down to maybe the low 20's in temp.
Things that are important to me in order: [ul][*]Less than $350-$400 total[*]Available to be in my hands before 9/15[*]Quiet[*]Durable (need to get at least 3 seasons of hard wear out of it)[*]Water resistant[*]Patterns won't fade[*]Available in a somewhat open pattern (not married to any one pattern)[/ul] Brands I have looked at most are the Predator patterns fromGray Wolf, and the ASAT patterns from Sitka. I also like the Enigma products and the new Realtree AP roadtrips suit. Something I can order through the shop at a wholesale rate would be even better, but isn't my top priority. If you have info on something that you don't want to discuss in public, feel free to PM me. We hear great things about Gray Wolf, but does anyone have first hand experience with Sitka stuff? |
RE: Bowhunting outerwear........
Ok no bashing
Scent-Lok stuff is great also. Dakota series is a great product at a great price. It will keeep you dry water resistant. It is very quiet. I would suggest staying away from Cabelas Dry plus or GoreTex. For bowhunting I find my suits with this to be tad nosiy. Cabelas makes some nice rain gear. MTO50 and Rain Suede. Both suits are 100% WP, but tend to be a bit noisy. RJ it is up to you, I have suits for rain and ones for mild weather. I find two suits better than 1. I have 2 wolfskin suits now, but have not wore them in the field so I do not know. From what I hear it is the real deal. |

RE: Bowhunting outerwear........
I wouldn't try to do it all with one outfit. That's why I have some of everything. The temperature range you gave as a guide is really nothing extreme. I like wool for temperature control. I like Goretex for rain control. I like to beable to throw on a Goretex jacket if it starts to rain on my parade. If it's snow the wool takes care of it. In the 50s that you mentioned I'm still just layering undies and cotton stuff or light weight wool. I have some light stuff and some heavier stuff and lots of different undies to layer it up. I really would never try to find a one suit does it all.

Mine also has the scent lok liner..... The noise you are speaking of is it the mesh liner in the non scent lok suit? I have been wearing the MT050suits since the 2003 season.

RJ
Here is a 6 year old Scent-Lok jacket. This was their suede, real close to dakota series. Has not faded a bit. Now I have 6 suits like this, but all 6 cost me 360.00 ![]() |
