how high?

RE: how high?
The vast majority of hunters I talk to are guilty of two things:
1) Vast over exaggeration/little or no concept of what one foot of height really is. I have had more people than I care to discuss come through work talking about how they only hunt from 45 feet up in a tree. Most trees in my part of the world ain't that tall, and the ones that are ain't thick enough to hold a man that high. 25 feet can seem like a mile when you are up there.
2) Hunting WAY too high. 25 feet might as well be a mile. I had one stand last season that I hunt 27 feet to the platform. 25 yards was dang near straight down. I'll never get that high up again... no need to.
I hunt from between 15 and 20 feet (to the platform) depending on cover. There have been plenty of deer I have arrowed from 12 feet... just gotta have the cover for it. Any lower than that, I'd rather be on the ground.

RE: how high?
Most of the ladder stands I shoot out of are around 15 feet high, when hunting in a Climbing stand I'm usually around 15 to 20 feet high. There is one tree I have hunted from that is on a hill side and I have gone about 20-25 high in it but when I look up towards the Ridge Field it only looks about 10-15 feet in the air, when I look down the hill side towardsthe Lake it feels like I am 30 feet in the air andmy butt cheeks have a death grip on the camo seat cushion! RE: how high?
I use climbers the majority of the time so i will hunt as high as the situation dictates sometimes 8ft sometimes 20ft never seen a reason to go much higher except the hillside example describe earlier

RE: how high?
10 - 15 feet usually. Actually, I shot my biggest deer under 10 ft becuase there weren't any large tree's in his home area and I just wanted something to get off the ground and get elevated above the brush...

RE: how high?
Depends on the amount of cover in the tree,20 seems to be the magic number for me. how ever sitting in or near a pine for Great Cover 10ft is just as good as 20 IMO. Basicallyjust cover your outline!! and sit still you will have deer come bye you

RE: how high?
Usually 20 in my climber depending on the cover , 15 in my ladder stands. Harvesteda buck last year from 12 in my climber because I couldn't breaka limb on a cypress tree off, but I had plenty of cover.
