I've shot a doe with (spotless) fawns, but never the other way around. I don't eat veal either. It's just a personal preference.

if a doe had two fawns i would shoot the smaller of the two fawns it would give the other a better chance of surviving the winter since it wouldnt have to compete for food with the other fawn, plus the meat would be nice and tender.
Now if it was a doe and one fawn i would pass them both

I personally would not shoot a fawn with spots... I have shot a young doe that had just lost it's spots... Sometimes its hard to tell how big a lone deer is...

No fawns for me I had a very sad expierience with a young one that will be with me forever. I won't shoot a doe with fawns either even if they will be alright. I hate the sound of a fawn searching for its mom and especially if mom is never coming back.

In the later season I sometimes have a hard time distinquishing between does and fawns. I try not to shoot a fawn, but I have in the past shot one thinking it was bigger

I agree, taste great.
As for shooting a doe w/o fawns, remeber most of the does you see have fawns, they aren't always sticking real closeto mom this time of year. It's rare for a doe to be barren, so that doe you shoot that seemed to be w/o fawns probably isn't and you've just orphaned them anyway! Don't worry about it.

the fawns will be fine after September if they were helpless without mom then the DNR wouldn't let you shoot them
