Quite a day at the bow shop!

Saturday found myself, my wife and our youngest at the shop with the intention of purchasing his first bow for him as a birthday gift. We are fortunate enough to have a decent pro shop close by, staffed by people who really want to help. Our son is 13, 5'8", and 140 lbs, not big for his age, but definitely out of the "youth bow" stage. We let him shoot quite a few to see how different bows felt. He shot bows made by Hoyt, Bowtech, Diamond, and Parker. My intention was to buy a bow that could "grow" with him, at least for a few years. After shooting several bows he decided on the Bowtech Tomcat. It is 27"/60#'s, right now we have it backed off to 52#'s and his is shooting it comfortably. I have never been so pumped in my life! I can't wait to hunt with him this fall. He is already consisantly hitting a 4" bullseye at 20 yds. I literally have to tell him to stop shooting, so he doesn't push too hard too fast. The bow was set up as a package with a Hostage rest, MBG 3 pin sight, S-Coil stabilizer, and we bought him ICS Venture arrows. He couldn't be happier.:D

Now for the kicker. I have been shooting Mathews bows since 1996 and have always loved shooting them. Having said that, I made a mistake while we were at the shop, I asked to shoot the Guardian for a second time this year. Well, after being blown away a second time, and after the shop owner made me an irresistible trade offer on my Apex 7, my son and I have matching hats! I got a 29"/70# Guardian with a Hostage rest and just switched over my sight and stabilizer. I really can't believe how this bow shoots, I haven't had this much fun shooting a bow in a long time.

Sorry for the pic quality, it's off a phone. My business partner has my camera. I'll post pics later of my boy shooting his bow. Needless to say, the two of us have been giddy since we got home on Sat. Come on Oct.1!

I love the guardian. I have had it since march and i have put a ton of arrows through it and just love the thing. I was hoping to get my first kill with it last spring on a long beard, but I missed the shot it was all my fault. But i am looking forward to puting an arrow threw a pronghorn in about a month!

pn-Glad to hear it has been doing well for you. Changing brands after so long feels a little strange, but exciting too.

Thanks again for all of the kind words and support. I like reading that some of you felt the same way when your Dad bought you your first bow. As much as I am enjoying the Guardian, it is much better to simply step back and watch him shoot. He is enjoying it so much that it is unbelievable. I can't wait until the first time he has deer close to him!:D
