1 1/16" VS 1 1/4" Cutting Diameter

I'm still debating on 125 grain and 100 grain for elk. If I decide to go with 100 grain, how much of a difference will the 1 1/16" and the 1 1/4" cutting diameter make?

The two broadheads I'm considering are the Muzzy MX-3's and the Cabela's Copperhead. I'm leaning towards the MX-3's.

Thanks Bryan

If the arrow is put in the boiler room, it's not going to make a lick of difference. Where you'll see the benefit of the larger diameter head is on a marginal shot.

Personally, I would go with the 100 grain model, but thats only because thats what my bow seems to prefer. The MX-3s are a killer head, I shot one at work today and really liked it.

I don't ever use less than 125.. I perfer 200- 220. grain Muzzy Phantoms. I've seen the difference, and will never use light broadheads again.

There is a mindset with archers thinking the lighter broadheads fly faster, they do, but you give up so much penetation.

We've done some extensive test, and the heavy will out perform the lighter, hands down.

Cabelas also has the FX-3 which is the Muzzy MX-3 if you are concerned about price. Why not look into Slicktricks or Wac'ems too.

I just came in from an extensive period of shooting my Muzzy MX-3's in preparation for my elk trip which I leave for in 16 days. They're flying like darts, and there's absolutely no way I'll shoot at the same dot even from 50 yards any more up until I leave... I've already dinged up several blades, shaved a handful of fletches off and busted several nocks over the last few weeks with them.

With its 1 1/4" cutting diameter and strong .025" thick blades, I'm fully confident in this head's ability to bring a mature elk down quickly.

muzzy's will always doyou better the tips are made to break though bone. i would use 125 grain you will get more knock down with the heavier broad head.
