Sweet corn
Most of the fields where I hunt are sweet corn this year. Do deer eat it at all? I havent noticed many tracks or trails on the fields. Sweet corn and potatoes are pretty much the main crops here.

RE: Sweet corn
I wouldn't worry about the deer as much as if you have any Ethiopians living near by. :D
On a serious note, I don't see why deer wouldn't eat the corn. Just because there isn't tracks doesn't mean they don't eat it....simply means their not eating it there. The plot may just not be on of the main food plots to hit. |
RE: Sweet corn
They will eat it once the corn ears mature. They just don't prefer the stalk, as corn is a form of grass and deer cannot digest grass well. Also the corn grain is a carbohydrate (sugar) which is mostly needed later in the season for energy (heat). Right now they are needing protien to build mass. Just about the time you notice they start hitting the corn the farmer will harvest it. :D

RE: Sweet corn
pretty much everything eats sweet corn! that's why people put up fences around their gardens. You should have no problems with it, and you can eat it too if you get hungry during the hunt!

RE: Sweet corn
If it's true sweet corn it should be picked by the time deer season comes in. Or if not it will only be in full ears for a few days before it is picked and sold so it should not affect your deer hunting at all. Unless you have farmers planting sweet corn for feed and that would be pointless.
