Bows and Heat???
Hey i had to bring my bow with me to work. It is in the car. Is it bad for it to be in the heat? I opened the windows a crack.

RE: Bows and Heat???
how hot does it get there

RE: Bows and Heat???
If your car will be in the shade all day, it's fine. If it's in full sun, your bow is gonna cook. Very bad for it. I'd do everything possible to find somewhere to stash it inside, if I were you. ASAP

K I moved the car to partial shade will only have to be out there for like an hour and a half. Buddy is picking it up from me. And I put in the floor in the back of the jeep cherokee. Also it has tinted windows.

RE: Bows and Heat???
I can tell you for sure that here in Arizona you should never leave your bow in your car or truck in the summer. Heat contributes to string and cable stretch which causes tuning problems. I have also seen several bows blow up from limbs separating from heat damage. Bow manufacturers will even ask the owner of such bows if they left the bow in their vehicles during the heat of summer. I don't know what they would do if the answer was yes. It is much better to treat your bow like your baby. I always take mine into the office if I have it with me during the work week.

RE: Bows and Heat???
I took a compound I was selling in at work one day, no case, and the janitor freaked. He asked if the thing was loaded and if it could go off. I told him if the red light wasn't lit, it was perfectly safe. He spent a good 10 minutes looking for a red light.
Here's yer sign. [8D] |
RE: Bows and Heat???
Wow... Funny stuff. So you guys dont think that an hour and a half will do any damage do you? Its 82 out now. And like I said bow is in the back not in direct sunlight and its in partial shade.

RE: Bows and Heat???
It should be okay for that long. Not much longer though, especially if your car is going to run out of shade.

RE: Bows and Heat???
All is well stole a garbage bag from a conference room and bagged her up and she is under my desk now.

RE: Bows and Heat???
It depends on a lot of things, like whether your car is in the sun, whether you have tinted windows,
if it is in a bow case, etc. I'm sure most people have had things melt in their car. A good while back, my wife had a videotape of her skydiving with a prior boyfried get completely melted on the back dash, and I can't say I was sorry. [8D] Segue aside, at least put it in the trunk or where there is no direct sunlight on it, that's what will cook it. |
RE: Bows and Heat???
Yeah I hear ya. Well all is good now. She is sitting under my desk. Feel much better now. And if a nice buck runs down the asile here I can take care of that.. haha

RE: Bows and Heat???
This is why I love this site, because this is a question I was wondering and now I have an answer. I was just talking to a buddy last week and we were pondering the effects on leaving a bow in extreme heat if it's 94 degrees out side it's probably 150 degrees in your vehicle. We came up with the conclusion that it would be no good to leave something in your car all day under those temperatures.

RE: Bows and Heat???
how about a storage unit, will my bow be fine? i will be in a hard case.
|
RE: Bows and Heat???
I sometimes bring my bow to work to bring it to the pro shop at lunch time and leave in a hard plastic case in my car trunk or back seat. If it's very warm out like you described, I will put a towel over the case with several ice packs from the freezer spread out over it and then another towel. I have felt the bow after leaving all day and it is not warm at all so this method works. My wife thinks this is amusing, but it doesn't take much effort and it protects the bow.

RE: Bows and Heat???
Chucker, you are a man after my own heart. You treat your bow like it is something special because it is. As far as the group of respondents wondering about cased vs uncased or the guy that has his bow in the storage unit, think about it. Storage units get incredibly hot unless they are air conditioned. And, a bow gets just as hot inside a case as it does outside the case. Again, heat will stretch strings and cables and it is very hard on you limbs.
