Are you content?

Based on another thread, I'm curious to see who is content with their current set up, and who thinks they need some work either by upgrades or by tuning?
Do you feel your bow and arrow set up will be adequate for the game you hunt?

Secondly, do you know of anybody that has a set up that you don't feel 100% comfortable about, be it by their ability or their equipments ability.

I'm pretty content with my setup, except for the rest. I'm planning to lose the Whisker Biscuit and add a Muzzy ZE rest in about a month. That said, the setup with the Whisker Biscuit would be fine for the hunting I plan to do, but I don't feel that my skill is. That's why I'm starting now getting ready for late October. :)

As A person who likes dual cams and my current Pat is only a single I am upgrading to the new dual cam version.
But I will say that the single cam Pat is more than adequate for any game I hunt.

If BT did not bring out the dual cam then I would not be upgrading cause I just love the Pat and the way it shoots.

RE: Are you content?

I'm pretty content shooting 378 gr ACC's at 26" and 70 lbs. However, I did get a failure to penetrate on the thickest part of a shoulder blade this year with a Snyper and am considering using heavier arrows. I've already gone back to fixed blade heads. I would like to get a set of heavier arrows and see how well they shoot.

I am working out a theory that would combine kinetic energy calculations leaving the bow with momentum downrange, call it KEMO. Calculated the same, but multiply the two together, or some variation-I haven't worked on it too much.. Tweaking arow weight might play more of a factor. That way, if the heavier arrow supposedly doesn't slow down as much, that factor is taken into account. Lots of noodling to do on it, but there has to be a way to account for weight "carrying" the energy and transferring it to the target better. The arrow's inertia has to be a factor there. It is just a seat of the pants type of theory, but I think there is some merit to it somewhere.

I guess I am pretty satisfied with my current setup, although I do want to try a fall away rest like the Muzzy ZE. Ive heard some good things about them, so maybe after the season is over Ill try one out.
I also want to try out the Magnus two blade 100 grain broadhead. If anyone has used these I would like your comments on them.

I'm thrilled with my setup. I did get a Whisker biscuit for Christmas, and if it works as well as I hear, I don't plan to change anything the entire off season, which would be a miracle for me.
I do imagine I'll get a new string about mid summer, and add any new products Limbsaver dreams up, but that's it.

My setup is fine. No problems, it ain't the fastest, but it kills deer.

I'm never content! With anything actually. I'm just one of those guys, gotta tinker with it now and then. Do I doubt my equipment, no, but I always think there is room for improvement.

I'm not content! I would like a whisker biscuit and a wobble free sight/quiver combo. (See my other topic posted) Also I wish I did not fear climbing trees!

I'm happy with my setup just didn't get to bow hunt this year . But there is always next year .

RE: Are you content?

My old round wheel PSE is probably older than some of our members, but it is accurate and kills deer(when I get them into range). It is a monster at 49&quot; axel to axel, 4&quot; overdraw, cheapo fiber optic sights, cobra stabalizer, shooting 28&quot; Easton 2117 Gamegetter II's with 100gr thunderheads or 100gr snypers. But I am not happy with it and am going to get a new bow in 2003 with the tax return. No idea yet what I will get.

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave

I'm not content - I twisted a limb on my Browning Cobra day before yesterday and my groups are now 12 inches at 12 yards. ( But my momentum is high as I shoot 10 grains per pound ;-) )

I couldn't be happier with my setup, although I would like to try a Bodoodle Pro-Lite rest next yr. instead of using my old TM Hunter.

As far as knowing someone who could change their setup yes!!! I know of a couple new archers in my area who need some help.

RE: Are you content?

I'm not. I am stripping my Impulse down to bare bow, adding a whisker biscuit, and then going shopping for all the rest. No particular reason, but I know it could be better, right? No fun just putting it away for the summer.

RE: Are you content?

Well for me I am somewhat happy. I do love my setup but I think I need another bow. One will Be setup for mechanicals and another will be setup for fixed heads. And the one setup for mechanicals will have vanes and the fixed heads will be have feathers. So this way when it is supposed to rain of snow and be damp I will shoot the bow with the vanes. SO I think I need another bow but I do love no wait LOVE my Darton Maverick it just plain rocks.

RE: Are you content?

Well I just got a new bow and I am pumped and happy with the new bow, however right after the season after checking with some other fine folks here I will be changing arrow size to better match my bow, the arrows I am shooting now are more than accurate enough and will get the job done, but when my season ends saturday I will be getting the new arrows to let me start tweaking things for next year. So I guess the answer is I am happy with my entire setup except my old arrows.

1st,

Yes, totally content and confident in my current setup. I feel it is more than adequate for the game I pursue in the area that I pursue it.

Second,

Yes, a buddy of mine has a bow that he is not comfortable shooting. The draw length is too long, he punches the trigger and yet he refuses to change anything about his setup or his shooting style.

Completely satisfied. And it will be just as an effective and capable killing machine when my boys are my age as far as I'm concerned. It will always be a better hunter than I am.

Now a bow for target and 3D on the other hand is a completely different story. I'm always going to be looking for the pefect tool to win with. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Are you content?

Things I am satisfied with: Muzzy Zero Effect rest. I preformed without a flaw. The bow tuning was right, arrow flight was good. Only thing I am not satisfied with was my rangeing abiltity, even with a range finder I am still guessing when shooting a deer. Was that yardage 23 or 25 or 28. So I'm going to get a pedulum and set it up on my hunting bow, hopefully that will take any guess work out of the equation. After that it's going to be a lot more pratice from the elevated position before next season.

Content here with my Hoyt MagnaTec, it is a 2000 with XT2000 limbs. It is a little heavy but that is what makes it so quiet. I shoot 5575 GoldTips and 100gr Thunderheads. I always get a pass through with my bow set at 56#.

RE: Are you content?

I just went to the Easton site to look at some heavier aluminum shafts on their selector page. I figured out that at my short (26&quot;) draw length, I would have to shoot more than a 200gr broadhead to get weights in the 9 gr/lb area that some are recommending. It turns out that my ACC's are right up there in weight with the rest of them(bare shaft). I'll stick with them, although I might look at a 125 gr bh instead of my 100's. I'll just work on my shot placement more than tweaking my equipment. I am looking to try the Timberline No-peep in order to improve my form consistency as much as I can.

I am very comfortable with my setup, Martin bow carbor arrows 100 gr Muzzy and it kills deer very well for me. I paper tune every year and shoot as ofter as I can all year I am at 272 FPS which is plenty fast.
