RE: Anybody use one of those deer carts?

We had a cheap drag cart and it broke while hauling out my little doe last year. So i finished the job with a drag rope and all was good.

I use them and think they're great. However I agree they only work in open woods and on logging roads. I'll take it as close to the deer as I can and then I use a drag strap to get the deer to the cart. I do recomend one.

Anyways........anyone have any experience with the carts they make to help get your deer out of the woods?
It was about 6 years ago now.... I have hunted every year since age 12 with my cousin and Granfather and we always hated the 2 1/2 mile drag back to the car. Anyway 6 years ago I shot a good 8 point down in the big woods at about 7:40 am. I had mine back to the car and was heading back to our spot only to find my cousin dragging out his 5 point. He had only gone a few hundred yards with his at this point. I think he was stalling waiting for my help. I grabbed ahold and started dragging with him and about a half hour later a guy come along with a real nice 10 point buck on a cart he had made. He said go ahead and throw your deer on top of mine and you guys can pull the cart. It was a breeze..... Well compared to dragging along a dirt road with hardly any snow. We bought a cart from Cabela's the prior to the following season and would never drag another deer. It helps tremendously.

Definitely invest in 1. Last yr 2 of us shot 4 deer right by ea. other. Threw 2 on at a time, got out w/no hassel. Plus makes it easier that draggn' the deer thru a sandy horse trail. Saves your back 2.

I have a homemade "dead sled", I had some plastic left over from the auto racing days, you can buy it from Speedway in rolls.

I also am going to build a cart using either Mountain bicycle wheels or wheelchair wheels. and using some plastic covers to protect the spokes.

I do agree that the cart won't work for all areas, but where it will work,.... I will use it and love it. Since I hunt public land, 4 wheelers aren't an option.

You guys that like them have got to be kidding if you use them over anything but a road. We had the cabela's big game cart once, it made it a hundred yards before the first wheel busted, limped on the other for a hundred more. Before the day was out we had boughtone of those wagons from a tractor supply place and finished hauling both the deer and the cart out. We drag them out of the hills now and finish up with the wagon on flat ground.
