:(I went in to a" big box store" no names, that I have worked at in the past to see some Friends and get a some new arrows today. When i got their my buddy at the archery counter had a little problem that he was dealing with. It seems that a new guy that thay hired sold some gold tip arrows last night and glued the knocks and the inserts after he cut them 2 inch's short..The new mantold the boss he had worked at aarchery shop for 6 years when he hired him, we think he might have lied !!!!

If you remember, nocks were once glued in. Really not that hard to believe for me.

Even though I work at one, that's why I ALWAYS recommend a pro shop....ALWAYS.....

I agree completely. Once again my opinion may be a bit biased because I work at one, but the service you get at a "good" proshop is second to none. You can't beat a good relationship with a shop owner, they work out for everyone. We talking the other day about another one of those outdoor chain stores and the achery shop. One guy said that he walked into their archery department to look at the bows and they had had ziptied things to the string. The zipties were so tight that it had broken a few strands on the string. Scary stuff.

I understand the zip ties, maybe not that tight though. Those are obviously on there to prevent the customer from drawing the bow, and thus the possibility of a dry fire. It's also a liablity. If that same customer were, by chance, to get hold of an arrow....You see where that may be going.....

Every time we do an offsite demonstration or something, we have all of our bows ziptied....

Not that they couldn't have a knife and cut said zip tie, but hey......

Having a good relationship is as valuable as a good relationship with your butcher.....Friends don't generally hose friends.....

That happened to me this year. First time I went in to the store they talked me into 5575 arrows, got on here and found out they were too weak. Both of us were at fault there, then I end up selling them to a friend, and went in, bought another dozen, drove to my parents place 50 miles away, take them out and just about flipped ****. I could see the glue with finger prints all over the nocks. So I told my parents I would just be in a ****ty mood all day, drove down and got it right. Never go there again

If the guy has worked in a shop for the past 6 yrs he should know all about carbon arrows by now. I think he lied. didn't they ask for references and call the place?

Here's the problem I see atbox stores. Some places just don't seem to hire people that know something about the products they are selling. I used to see it all the time at a store where I grew-up. The guys behind the counter did not hunt and knew nothing about bows but were selling them.

You can never go wrong doing these things yourself. I cut my own arrows and place the inserts in.
