RE: Help with animal identification
Wow i like how everyone on here starts dropping smart comments. Im not bristowboy here and claiming ive seen black panthers and double droptine bucks. i just wanted to know what that thing is because i, or anybody else ive shown from around here, has ever seenanything exactly like itbefore. And i can pretty much garuntee its not a racoon, they simply just dont get that big. Ive come to the conclusion that its probably an Otter, but that still doesnt seem right.

RE: Help with animal identification
I wonder whatyou and bristoboy smoke?[:'(] you where talking about how you and your brother saw a DROP TINE BUCK so your right there with him.
|
RE: Help with animal identification
I never claimed that i saw a drop tine buck, i said my 2 brothers did. I dont want to turn this into a "black panther - like" discusion, i just have a video and was wondering what it was.

RE: Help with animal identification
Good call killa! I think sometimes, to poke a little fun in jest is okay, but too many times it is taken too far and it gets to being insulting and attempting to humiliate. I was on a forum , which this was so common that I asked the mods, who were as guilty of it as much as or more than others, to stop it or at least to try to cut this one particular young man some slck, and they began taunting me for defending the guy! Needless to say, I don't frequent that forum anymore!

RE: Help with animal identification
I'm going with porcupine. Has the shape, color, mass, and movement.
|
RE: Help with animal identification
Otter. To long for a coon and tail isn't as bushy as a fisher.
|
RE: Help with animal identification
Were hoping tocatch up with the landowner to ask him about it this week at the fair. We know the man pretty well (he owns one of the largest farms in my county, but sadly doesnt allow hunting of any kind except coyote, cuz they attack his calves). There is a river about 3/4 of a mile from where i filmed this, that is why i beleive it was an otter. I have flimed beavers in this area during high waters, but they river is way down now and the animal doesnt walk like a beaver.
|
RE: Help with animal identification
All I know is that in a few frames afterthe animalturns and is seen broadside, you can briefly see an open space between the legs and the ground indicating that the legs are long - you can actually see individual movement of the legs.
I also believe it is moving too fast for a beaver or porcupine. To me, this limits it to a coyote or a dog. |
RE: Help with animal identification
Looks like an otter to me. could be a coon. Not sure how big they get where you're from but out west here coons dont get too big
|
RE: Help with animal identification
WTF is a fisher? I never heard of that.I have heard of otter, beavers, and coons though just so you all don't think I'm too naive.

RE: Help with animal identification
Watched it five times, and read all the comments.
Sorry folks, that's a raccoon. I'd put my confidence level at 90%. The other 10% is for some kind of canid. Itdefinitely is notis a mustelid (otter, pine marten, etc.). That critter has a humped back at all times.Rather un-doglike, and not at all mustelid.A mustelid would only look hump backed at one point in its stride, then the back would flatten out and be low to the ground and elongated. Mustelids move along the ground almost like an INCHworm. The attitude, quickness of movement is sort of middle-of-the-road. Mustelids look hyperactive, and possums/porcupines look like they are on downers. |
RE: Help with animal identification
at first i though it wasnt a racoon, but after watching it...the movements give it away, it is not an otter, i have seen a couple and they move much differently...it is still a bit skinny tho for a racoon....but not so much for the time of year, in the fall they are tubs of lard.

RE: Help with animal identification
It looks to me like it could be a coon.

RE: Help with animal identification
My first thought after watching it starting and stopingit had to be Micheal Vic! But i didn`t see a bull dog around so that guess is out[8D]
My second guess is a racoon or otter? |
RE: Help with animal identification
coon...that is my vote....smallish point head....large back end high in the air and a tail....black/greyish coloration....vote is a coon
|
RE: Help with animal identification
Have you ever seen a porci? They do not move like that!
ORIGINAL: game4lunch I'm going with porcupine. Has the shape, color, mass, and movement. |
