How would you LIKE to hunt your area?
Something overlooked sometimes.....How would you LIKE to hunt your area?
If you have any of the following going on.....you know what I'm talking about: 1) Overpopulation of deer 2) Earn a buck scenario 3) Shared grounds 4) Limited time etc... How we choose to (out of necessity or otherwise) hunt might not necessarily be how we'd like to hunt. Using my example....I have a job to do this fall. I need to thin does. What I'd LIKE to do is hunt the first 2 weeks of the season in my good spots.....then get and stay the hell out of there (hunts does, elsewhere) until Nov.. I'd like to go in there on choice days during the rut and that be it. Can't do it that way, this year. Buck sightings and maybe even the chance to take one might be the side effect. So be it. Anybody have similar circumstances......have to share your woods?......Only get to hunt saturdays?...........Have to earn a buck? |
RE: How would you LIKE to hunt your area?
We need an earn a buck in my area.
I took a guy I work with scouting with me a few weeks back. He's from Utah and this was his first taste of whitetail country. Upon arriving at the alfalfa field and seeing 30+ does already feeding his first words were "Holy &^%# your doe population is out of whack." We're allowed ONE deer per year, three point minimum or antlerless. How many hunters here take a doe rather than a buck? Not many. But of course, Washington doesn't have an over population of deer according to the DFW. I would love to be able to thin my herd. |
RE: How would you LIKE to hunt your area?
Wish I could hunt Sundays..............[:@]
Other than that I wish I lived closer than almost 4 hours away so I could scout it more than 1-2 weekends a month during the offseason. I hunt it almost every weekend from October till January but really wish I could spend more time there in the offseason.. Oh well, I'm working on that part........hopefully someday soon. |
RE: How would you LIKE to hunt your area?
Due to circumstances I won't repeat, I can only hunt weekends at my best spot, and then not
every weekend. So my choice would be simple, more time hunting that area. It is big enough that with smart hunting burn-out is not a big problem. I've already planned out on calendar the first half of the hunting season, and threw in a few Fridays off. ;) |
