Homemade Scent Killer
 

So I've read about this on several posts and in magazines and it looks like a good idea. But I see that it has hydrogen peroxide as a main ingredient. Will this fade camo and/or leave blonde highlights in my thick brown hair?:D

Anyone have any experience making or using the stuff? Tips to share?

I have used it with great results. I put a little extra baking powder in so I have a little white residue on my clothes and boots, not enough to distort the camo or anything but it is there.

I have not noticed any of my camo fading and I am pretty anal about all my stuff. I think you will like it, and not just on cost alone, this stuff works!

Here is what Field and Stream had in its tip section. Though pretty much the same thing has been posted many times over here:


2 cups (16 ounces) 3% hydrogen peroxide
2 cups (16 ounces) distilled water
½ cup baking soda
1 ounce unscented shampoo (available at drug or health-food stores)

Mix
Gently combine all the ingredients in a large bowl until the baking soda dissolves. Pour this mixture into a 1-gallon lidded container, such as a milk jug. Let it sit for three days with the lid on loosely to allow gases to escape.

Bottle
Fill a plastic bottle that has a trigger sprayer with the scent killer. It must be clean, so buy a new one from a hardware store or online.

Wipe
To make scent-killing wipes, place plain brown multifold paper towels—the kind that come in stacks, not on a roll—in a small plastic tub with an airtight lid. Cover them with scent killer and let it soak in. Pour out excess liquid and replace the lid. Now you can wipe down boots, bows, and stands, and even use a towel or two to neutralize the sweat you produce shinnying up that perfect white oak.

What type of "Baquacil" (sp) was that supposed to be from Wal-Mart for the peroxide? Is there a particular kind of that stuff?

Also, does this stuff have a "shelf life"? Or, does any other scent killer?

Well there's one post on some forum that I read that sums it up.

I guess you let it bubble out so then it doesn't bleach stuff.
Your not supposed to use grocery store brown bottle h2o2 because it has stabalizers in it.

I will be doing this this year.. Ive been wanting to try it for a couple years now but had enough scent-a-way to last a life time it seemed like..haha..

have heard all good resultsuseing this, nothing about fading or coloring your clothes.. Ill keep an eye on it though, glad someone mentioned it..
