So......what's your minimum limit?
For you guys that are buck hunters.....what I would consider a "trophy" hunter, what are your minimum requirements? How many inches of horn does that bad boy gotta have before you shoot it?
Personally, I have no minimum size in inches, he's just got to be a decent 8 point.... |
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I want the buck to be wider than his ears an at least an eight, other than that he better have something out of the norm if he is less than hisears width.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I would like to say I am holding out for something over 130 inches. But if one a little smaller walks by that hassome neat character or if I think he would look good on my wall, my arrow might be on its way. Also might depend on what I see when I check my camera this weekend.
Subject to change at any time. |
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
on our land a good eight is a trophy
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Im not sayin [8D] But if i was, i would say over 115" or out to the ears. There are some freaky 2.5 year olds that i would consider, mater of fact i have a 2.5 on my wall that has some great bases and alot of trash on them. i thought he would go 3.5 to 4.5 and was surprised when they checked the teeth and said he was 2.5. They were surprised also. So it all depends!!
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Anything outside of the ears.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Im holdin for a 130+ this year, and have been for the last two years...
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I live in Iowa so number wise it will be around 160" or just an old sway belly that needs to be out of the herd. Ate my tag last year on this number, hopefully i don't do it again.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
im not going to pass anything up my first year.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Anything that really get's my heart racing I guess. Last year I had one in my sights..but he didn't get close enough..or so I thought (at first I thought he was too far out, then I put my third pin on a lump he walked right in front of,,,i nailed it. I felt a little sick after that, but the way my heart was going I probably would have ended up with a bad shot.)
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I am not going to pass on any buck because it is my first year.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Anything over 3 years old. Most of them are in the120 inch range
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
any legal buck. which in most of my areas has to be 4+ 1"+ long points to a side. if that happens to be a 10" wide basket rack 8pt opening morning, well...he is meeting my muzzy if i have anything to do about it. i only ever killed 2 scrappy 6pts with a rifle and 8 or so does. it will most likely be my first bow kill too so i aint gunna be tooo picky so long as hes legal. funny i seen some nice illegal bucks last season...just hope they made it..
other areas i hunt have a 3pt or more restriction..but most of them at 4pt or better to a side..if im hunting one of the 3pt areas i will take a legal buck there as well... |
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
A good size 6pt is my trophy. Like the buck I killed last year in muzzleloader.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I don't consider myself a trophy hunter by any means , I hunt for the meat but I do have an eight point rule.
I believe in that " let'm go to let grow " thing , it's my personel choice so I let the young small racks go. If I get a nice main frame eight point or better within bow range , my arrow is flying. |
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
my most recent buck was 115 to 120, with a rifle. that was two years ago, and since then ive been holding out for something bigger or really close to it. ive had a few border line small eight point baskets walk by since then, i was just in the wrong mood to shoot them. after a two year drought, if i have ANY eight point walk by within bow range im smokin him. rifle my limit remains around 120.

RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Pa. says I can take a deer with 3pts on a side.If one gives me the shot I want to take,I'll take it
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Anything with antlers, branched antlers would be awesome! ;):D
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I'm going to say 120 or 3.5+. Its more likea 130" min, but I'll allow for some misjudging. [8D]
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
If i get one this year itll be my first, but im gonna hold out for a 6 and if iget one bigger, GREAT!
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Buttons or better.............:D:D:D:D:D
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I look for 20 + spread and mass. Late in the year I may just shoot to shoot or just to put one on the board for the team.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
A really good buck here has made it pasthis4th b-daygoing into the hunting seasonand will generally score in the 140-150 range gross with good genetics. My goal is to kill a buck 4 years old or older. ;)Let the score take care of itself. I have seena couplehere this summerthat will push up into the 150's gross. No giants but solid bucks for here. I have lots of scouting left to do though before season opens. Still looking for a booner..dont know as I have ever seen one.. but I enjoy looking, and I know there are few scattered out in these mountains.

RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
If its a buck, and I am very picky, it has to be pretty big. At least an 8, but a trophy class deer. I know everyones opinion of a trophy varies, but in the neighborhood of 135-140 as a minimum. And I have probably let more than one of these go. The deer has to look big to me. I am still proud to say I have never taken a buck I have had to make an excuse for. If there is any question in my mind, even if its on my own land, I'll let him go. I'm used to having unfilled buck tags, so it doesn't really break my heart. We have plenty of does, and there are always more that need killing, so why shoot a buck this year that would be a true giant next fall when you can have the doe? I just don't personally see the point. And if someone else would get more enjoyment out of that buck than I would by killing him, hey thats awesome too! But I'd just feel guilty if I shot a buck that wasn't truely at his peak potential.

RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I'll shoot a nice looking six point or above that has at least some mass.

RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Well 140 or better with the camera rolling!!! Or as Talltines said a big ole sway belly that has some years on him and just needs to go!!! Walt
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
An eight point or better that is at least 21/2.I would shoot less than an eight point if it is obviously an older deer with mass or character.Real wide and heavy but no brow tines, four or five points on one side freaky on the other, that type of thing.
I don't like to eat a buck tag but I do hold to my criteria. |
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I'm looking for a 3.5 year old or a 110" or better in PA, and 100" or better in NJ unless I can find a nice buck still in velvet after filling my earn-a-buck tag.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I too do the age requirements. 3.5 or better in Illinois and I'll take it. Although a really good 2.5 with a lot of character will not go unnoticed. It really boils down to the feeling I get after I see the buck.. if it's a shooter I know it and if I hesitate a moment I will let him walk.

RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
140"+
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
yea i havent killed a decent buck yet, so anything and the first buck (except for a spike )that comes my way is going to get it. then i will prob. work my way up to more and more points, width exactly
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
width etc.*
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Well, since this will be my first year with my bow i will prob kill any decent 8 pointer like the one in my avatar but, thats what i say know i might get in my stand and see a big 6 point that really gets my heart racing and im letting the arrow fly. I guess it just all depends. I will try to hold out for an 8 though.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
I will be holding out for at least a 3.5 yr old. Last year a passed up four 2.5 yr olds that were 120 or better and we have been seeing quite a few 3.5 yr or older bucks this year.
|
RE: So......what's your minimum limit?
Hunting in Ohio this year. Was told to hold out for a 140 min.So Im abit pumped.!!!!!
