RE: Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
I'll probably have people call me a liar but here goes!
I know where the line is and what the law allows when and where I am hunting. I do not cross that line. If I am going deer hunting that is all I am after. If I am going small game hunting I know what game I can harvest and that is all I will take. There is no reason to cross that line. 20 years ago? the answer would have been B maybe C. back then I didn't study the game laws the way I do now. Ignorance can put my butt in jail, and take my truck, bow, etc. FOOLPROOF? Never underestimate the power of a fool! What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about? |

Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
I am riddled with spots and blemishes, but they tend to be fading, maybe its the because of my use of the "law abiding cream" I have used now for over 15 years. I too have seen the line, ignored the line, crossed it, pretended it was never there and so on, maybe it was part of growing, although some grow in the way that was meant to be. I always knew right from wrong, but rebelled for a few years, maybe due to the fact as I was a product of a father that was the Cheif of Criminal Investigations for the Federal Govt. all my life, the rules were taught to me clearly, I just made a choice to ignor them. Then I was lucky enoung to land a Vol. job with the hunting program at Ft. Belvoir. I worked very closely with the Federal Inviromental Officer there. I worked with and for some of the most respected guys in the hunting community, some retired Military people, some just upstanding guys. It then made me realize that there opinion of me was much more important than that of the "thugs" that I thought put the most peer pressure on me. I have realized also that game laws are in effect for a reason, I have grown to trust the judgement of the local and state biologists and why they put limits as they do. I also have realized from working with the Game Wardens that they want hunters to be successful, they are not Anti- they are only Anti-law breakers. They are only there to inforce the laws that we have, not to make a hunters life hard or tough. I have a new outlook on alot of things that I feel are just not worth it in life. Breaking the law is one of those things I dont need to do, for any reason. Just short of my life or the well being of my family I dont see any reason to break any law. Hunting ; an act of love for nature guided by the strongest spiritual forces. http://www.adventuresoutdoors.freehomepage.com/ ![]() |

RE: Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
Well, coming from someone who lived their entire life on the 'other' side of the line, I do my very best to make sure I know exactly where the line is. Then I back up 2 paces and stay there. Case in point.
2 years ago I was out with my stepson and brother in law drive hunting on land south of mine. It was our second or third drive. My stepson was carring a 12 gauge shotgun using slugs and my brother in law the same with a 357 magnum revolver on his hip also. (don't ask me why) I wasn't carrying a gun because I'm not allowed to by law. I was just helping drive the deer to the posted hunters. On the 3rd or 4th drive, we still didn't have any deer. My brother in law reaches behind his seat in his truck and pulls out another shotgun and goes to hand it to me. Now we're out in the middle of nowhere, no game wardens or sheriffs around anywhere. I could have easily taken that weapon and hunted, but I didn't because if I did, I could spend the next 5 years in the pen. Right now, I could take my stepson's 12 gauge and go shoot a doe on my place, drag her down to the house and put her in the freezer. No one would know. I would be on my own property. But, there's always the chance that the local game warden would show up and I'm busted. I lose the farm, my freedom, and the priveledge of bowhunting for a long time. No thanks. Sorry this was so long. Guess you hit a nerve. KEEP IT LEGAL. KEEP IT SAFE. OR WE MAY NOT GET TO KEEP IT AT ALL. |

RE: Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
Well in my youth I used to push property lines, I always justified it to myself saying what is 100 yards, they will never know. I never got caught, but looking back on it now I realize that I was taking a big gamble and if caught could have been a reason for some one not to allow hunters on their land. Being a parent I now know that I am the example for my children and for other young hunters, I would never dream of crossing the line now. In the past I would say B, C, & D would count for me, however D is not true, not every body does it.

RE: Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
Well this post did dredge up some long forgotten memories of my younger days and some of my insane antics...geez, I'm much mellower now thank God! I'm pretty boring nowadays and have too much on "the line" to risk getting in some kind of trouble for doing something stupid. I still may pop a shot at some migratory waterfowl a few minutes after legal shooting time (my watch stopped) but that's about it. But you bet I would probably never do "A"...I would probably do "C".

RE: Without SPOT or BLEMISH?
I have never crossed the lines. This is not to say that temptation is not there all the time, especially when the seasons are getting late and you have unused tags.
Ethics and a healthy fear of the law and consequences keep me from crossing that line. GO PACK! |
