Salt or mineral

Do you think a salt block or a mineral block is better at getting deer in front of a trail cam?

Here's a recipe I got off a previous thread about salt/mineral.

WHITETAIL DEER HOMEMADE MINERAL MIX RECIPE
Ingredients: Makes 200 lbs. for about $23.00

1 part Di-calcium phosphate, this is a dairy feed additive bought at feed stores.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $11.00 you need one bag.

2 parts Trace mineral salt, the red and loos kind without the medications.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $5.00 you need two bags.

1 part Stock salt, ice cream salt.
Comes in 50lb Bags at around $2.00 you need one bag.

Directions:

-Use a 3 pound or similar size coffee can to use as your measure for each part of the mix.

-Mix all together well but not until read to use, keep ingredients separate until ready to put to use.

-Dig or tear up a circle in the soil about 36 inches wide and about 6 inches deep.

-Mix your mineral mixture with the soil.

Maintenance:

-Replenish in 6 months with fresh supply of mineral, and then each year there after.

I never really believed in them, until i read about whitetail institues 30.06 mineral licks. I put 2 up on my one property and the deer have been crushing it. Will be interesting to see how different in sizethe bucks grow after eating it all summer.

Mineral block for me. I set one out for 1 week about 3 months ago and the deer are still eating the ground. I have a hole about 2 feet across and 1 foot deep. It may be bigger now as I haven't checked it out for a couple of months. Here in Indiana we can set bait out but need to remove it at least 10 days before the season starts. I only use it for my trail cam.

I've had better luck with the mineral.... The mineral blocks, well most of them anyway have salt in them.

I use a regular salt block but it really doesnt bring them in from everywhere. They usually eat the dirt around it from where the rain is washing it away. I also have a Dumor horse block that they like. It has alfalfa, corn, soybeans, applesand all kinds of stuff that deer love all packed into a block and they seem to eat it pretty good.

I use the homemade recipe. Its worked good so far. I usually will use some corn in the summer if i really want to "take inventory" :D;)

i put one whole salt block in two different spots and both blocks are gone and they have aten the dirt away to make a hole half wayup to your knee.
