Anyone use a red-dot sight?

For bowhunting? I haven't seen anyone with one of these sights on a bow but they look interesting. Pros? Cons?
Thanks,
Monty

Are you talking about the Summit Hot Shot bow sight? If you are, check out thebowhunting gearforum. Greg/MO did a great review of it.

Hope this helps.

Specifically, the sight that I am considering is a BSA red-dot 42mm that Sportsman's Guide has on sale now.

Thanks for the link. I imagine that a lot would apply to this sight.

One of my huntin' buddies, in fact he's one of THE best whitetailers I've ever shared the woods with, swears by his Red Dot sight. He's used it for many years and it's been very impressive in his hands. I'm not even sure how many P&Y class bucks he's killed with it but I know he's told me repeatedly that he'll never use anoter sight. One of the most attractive features for Paul is the fact that you never have to rely on a peep sight again and it works as a perfect torque indicator. If you can see the dot, that is EXACTLY where you're arrow is going to hit. Last year he took a 140 class and a 177" brute to add to an already very impressive track record with this sight. I'd have to say that he's clearly proven to me that they are very effective hunting sights!

I personally have not used either one. With the summit sight, you can change it from 1-pin to multiple pins(or dots) and there is a pendulum fuction too.

Also check you local game laws. I don't believe in MA, we can use the sight that you posted from the sportsman guide.

I just installed the new Summit Hot Dot on my Bow-Tech and so far so good. I have set it up for Fixed pin mode and will be setting it up for pendulum mode later.
I have hunted for years with a Halo graphic sight made by EO Tech. You don't need a peep, it will let you know if you torque your bow. It really is a fantastic sight. Mine is an older model but now they even have built in range finders. Last I checked you will pay $300.00 plus another $50.00 for a good adjustable sliding mount.
I have harvested many animals with this sight. Hope this helps and good luck

I just looked over the Mass regulations, including the hunting/fishing abstract, CMR 3.01, 3.21, and MGLc131 and I do not see any reference to optical sights and archery. I would appreciate it if you find a reference to forward it.
