Looking to buy a new bow

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have hunted but only with a rifle or muzzleloader. My husband hunts with a bow and I want to try the same. The question of course is where to start. I'm a small woman, draw length is 25.6, currently my draw weight is only 34#!
I've heard again and again that buying a youth bow will leave me trying to sell and upgrade after a season. I worry that walking into a shop I will end up with a bow that they are trying to unload because it didn't sell or they got alot of at a good price.
Any suggestions?

Hoyt Selina
Browning Rage

There are quite a few others that would suit you well, but these are 2 I am familiar with. The best advice is to head to a reputable pro shop and shoot as many that fit you as you can. The one you want will jump out at you.

Welcome to the forums, don't be a stranger. We look forward to hearing more from you.

The Diamond Edge is another great option.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I would recommend the Bowtech Equalizer. You can get the draw weight 30-40 and 40-50. It also has a short drawlength 24"-27 1/2". Good Luck and welcome to the forums.

That would be the suggestion I would make as well. Good luck. ;)

I also agree to shoot a few and see which feels the best.

I would also start out with the Equalizer....its made for short draw. If you look at the stats....inch for inch and pound for pound, it is one of the fastest bows on the market today.

Don't know what state you plan on hunting so make sure the bow you choose will meet the minimum draw weight requirement. Example: NY is 36lb., Nebraska is 40, Maryland is 30 and some have no minimum specified. Just something to think about.

Try as many as you can and pick one that feels the best.

Look at Martins Leopard, very nice parralled limb bow.

I can't recommend any bows better than what the other guys have, but I would like to make a general suggestion. Don't be discouraged if you aren't able to shoot a legal hunting draw weight right now.

Obviously, you will need to buy a bow you can handle now, but has enough draw weight adjustability to be legal for you to hunt with. Your shooting muscles will develop quickly as you shoot and practice. An easy way to do this is to try and shoot about 3 times a week. Then tighten the limb bolts 1/4-1/2 turn a week. You'll never notice the increase in draw weight but you will soon be drawing enough to be legal for hunting.

Thanks for all the advice, it's much appreciated. It's time to go back to the store and see how they feel. I suppose it will be like the first time I picked up my rifle, it belonged in my hands. Kind of like anextension of my arms. (Does that make sense?)
I have been worried about being able to bring the deer down with such a lightdraw weight at the moment. (I am in MI which doesn't have a minumum weight.) Ineed to make a decision and start practicing! I'm so excited!

Holy cow! I just got a Mathews Ignition! It's light and shoots like a dream! My husband decided to replace his older Mathews and got the Drenalin. Incredible bows and well worth the two hours spent driving north (and two hours back) to buy them.
Shoot it's only July. Well, at least I have time to practice! :)

Best of luck and welcome to the forum! The best part about bowhunting for someone who has only gun hunted before is that bow season better corresponds with bucks in the rut than gun season for most states. Be sure to let us know how you do!
