This year's goals
What are your goals for this year? As far as killing deer, seeing more deer, or maybe even getting someone their first deer.
My personal goals this year are: 1) Take 2 does off my property to help ratio out a bit 2) Take a MATURE buck. 3) Help my cousin get his first deer, maybe with archery tackel to boot 4) I'm also going to try to take out a few younger kids to try to get them interested in hunting. So let's hear yours... |

ORIGINAL: Cougars09 My personal goals this year are: 1) Take 2 does off my property to help ratio out a bit 2) Take a MATURE buck. Best of luckwith the "mature" buck! Rare is the bowhunter who will even see a 5 1/2 year old animal during legal shooting hours. Remember though, the KEY to shooting a mature buck is to NOT shoot an immature one! That being said, I respect anyone who sets goals and can stay dedicated and focused on the task. Good luck |
RE: This year's goals
I'll be happy with taking anything with my bow, it's my first year out with it.
I'd also like to take my buck in archery or muzzleloader season. |
RE: This year's goals
Take my first deer with a bow, and also get my dad his first deer with his Crossbow.

To put my goals within reason, iI'd be happy with a 3 1/2+ year old. |
RE: This year's goals
#1) Have fun every day spent afield this year. Shouldn't be hard to tackle this goal. LOVE TO HUNT!
#2) Take down my first elk with a bow. Came soooo close last year. #3) Take down a mature buck with an awesome rack. This one has eluded me for years. Don't get me wrong, I've been extremely close, sometimes within 5 yards but something always goes wrong. Maybe this year. #4) Be with my son when he drops his first bow kill this year! Actually this should be #1! Have a great year everyone. 7 weeks to elk country, can't wait to smell that mountain air again!! |
RE: This year's goals
I am hoping to take my first deer this year, whether it be a doe or buck. I am pretty sure I can get a couple does but am going to work hard for a nice antlered deer.
|
RE: This year's goals
I couldn't hunt last season so I want to spend as much time as I can at my cabin this year.I'd like to fill all my tags in archery season
|
RE: This year's goals
I will be finally hunting the same property 2 years in a row. So
#1 have a safe season #2 Take about 5-7does i think the ratio is about 8-1 #3 try and find some buck, i only saw 1 last year #4 not get discrouged... |
RE: This year's goals
ORIGINAL: Cougars09 Well I'm not the only one going to be shooting does. My stepdad is going to try to take a couple and our neighbors are aswell. As far as a mature buck. The mark we usually set is 6pt or better. To put my goals within reason, iI'd be happy with a 3 1/2+ year old. Also, if "shooters" on your property have previously been yearlings with 6pt racks than a 3 1/2 would certainly qualify as "mature"... best of luck to ya. Also, perhaps your dedication and/or success will inspire the old men to up the bar and set some goals for themselves as well. I'd kill the guy who would dare shoot a 6 pointer off my property! [:-] Best of luck to ya bud, I hope to see some pix from you this Fall. |
RE: This year's goals
1.Shoot my first elk in September in Alberta.
2. Shoot 2 bucks over 150" with one being a booner. 3. Have a ton of fun and not get caught up and feel pressured. Man its gonna be a great year.:D |
RE: This year's goals
#1: Kill a bigger buck than last year
#2: Kill more does with my bow |
RE: This year's goals
Take my first public land deer.
Also, I seem to think I saw a deer recently that I want a crack at.......Hmmmmm.....now when was that........:D[&:] |
RE: This year's goals
First and foremost...Have fun.
I want a gator in the worst way...something over ten feet. The bow and I will be in Florida the end of August. I'll be back in Colorado for archery antelope, bear, deer, elk, and Mt. goat. The two goats are the animals I'm really bowing for. 3 out of 5 would suffice. I'd like to add two mature deer from different states-I'mon aquest for a deer in every state. Nebraska, Texas, Illinios are, for sure, on theschedule. I'll be archery hunting Q-L Caribou in Quebec at the end of November. One decent representation of the species would be nice. I would consider a Rio Grandeturkeyor wolf an added bonus. My eyes will be wide open for either. |
RE: This year's goals
2) an adult buck
in fact a monster buck packing a very large rack... First and foremost...Have fun. |
RE: This year's goals
Shoot a shooter with my rifle or any deer with my bow(will be my first.)
|
RE: This year's goals
Spend more time in the woods.
|
RE: This year's goals
Hopefully not get tired of butchering does.

[:-] Best of luck to ya bud, I hope to see some pix from you this Fall. That's the difference here Cornfed. A "normal" 2yr old here is a 6pt. There is usually ALOT of 2yr old 6pts seen throughout the course of the year. I killed one last year. Where they go from 2yr to 3yr is beyond me. I personally saw only 2 deer 3.5 or older last year and now one of them is on my neighbors wall. The other is a brute, you've heard me talk about him more than once I'm sure. |
RE: This year's goals
Get my first deer with a bow and try to hold out for atleast one 4x4 or bigger.
|
RE: This year's goals
1. Shoot as many does as I can, and at least 1 withmy longbow
2. Shoot a buck scoring 120+ or 3.5 + old. |
RE: This year's goals
To make my first kill with a recurve. To kill a bigger buck than the 7pt I killed last year and to fill all 3 of my doe tags. Howeverfirst and foremost is to enjoy myself.
|
RE: This year's goals
I hope to take anything with my bow this year. It will be my first time hunting other than a few times out last year after I got it in October. ( Sorry for whoevers team I end up on, but I will try my best. ) Have lots of doe pics and have seen several bucks. Finally got one of them on the cam yesterday.
|
RE: This year's goals
I am hoping to take a deer with my recurve this year. It would be the first with a recurve for me. Other then that I just hope I am able to get out in the woods as much as possible.
