Dealing with Landowners Family

I am mainly an archery hunter. Problem is, one of my best hunting spots is frequented by 2 nephews of the land owner. They shotgun hunt, whenever the mood strikes them..ie: when it ain't shotgun season. One year they killed a really nice 10 pt. I had been after all fall, and man was I torqued![:@] I didn't say anything to anyone about it though, for fear of loosing the spot. I was wondering how many of you have had similar experiences?

Why do they have to know who tipped off the DNR/GW?

A friend of minefound out about some guys doing this very thing a couple of years back and called them in. It was not property he hunted....but it abutted his hunting grounds.

I'd call it in.....send an e-mail......write a letter. I wouldn't stand for it IF I had proof. I've got guys "likely" poaching by me....but I can't prove it.

Never worry about loosing a hunting spot. I bet you were looking for one when you came across that one and you will be looking for another one when you find the next one.

Good luck

no hunting land will support poaching.

A poacher is a poacher. I would turn them in.

If they are breaking the law then you should at a minimum tell the landowner. He may have
given his nephews "permission" to hunt, but I'm sure he doesn't want them breaking the law out there.
That might get rid of the problem if he's a good landowner and limits or prohibits their hunting.
If we let someone hunt our land and they broke the law (not something like a hunter's orange violation),
like that, they would not be welcome back.

In basic nuisance situations where they are not breaking the law, blood will usually trump you, so
you probably just have to decide if it is worth it to you. I had some land to hunt closer to where
I live, but the relatives (nephews like you) with their constant four wheeler riding, shooting, and
crazy crap were too much for me.

If they are just going out to kill a deer for some meat, I personally have no problem with it. If they are out killing many deer for there racks, then I have a major problem with it. I would guess in this situation they are killing for racks since they killed a nice buck. If someone is killing a deer just for some meat, they usually kill a doe. I would turn them in if tey are indeed poaching for racks!

I have a problem with someone killing anything thats out of season. No matter if its a doe or buck its called poaching.

It was never said this deer was taken out of season. It was saidin the sentence prior to the above quote thatthe nephews hunted when the earge struck them so to speak. Now if you have info they did indeed take this or any deer for that matter during one of these earge outings it is your responsability to report them, but you never said clearly that this was the case with this particular animal. If it is I myself would not have been able to stand pat on the matter like you. Your only hurting yourself directly and anyone else that hunts the area indirectly by staying quite.

I'm not sure how you can get torqued if it is the guy's nephews and it's in season. They are blood and you are not. I'd just be thankful that they guy lets you hunt there at all and let it go.

I have to deal with the same thing on property I hunt. When his son thinks he might be coming in he says no one else can hunt the property. that's life. I don't own it and the guy is blood.

sorry for the confusion. It was not gun season, just bow season.

Then let the landowner know if you can prove it and hope for the best that he is a law abiding person and won't condone this type of activity.

I would turn him in if they are poaching, if not you cant do much. I know it might make you guys mad when landowners family hunt on thier property, but it is their property and they can do what they want. We shut our property down during all deer and turkey seasons so only we can hunt it. I really dont care how it makes people feel becouse it is mine and ill do what i want;)And when people start tresspasing it really pisses me off and then the law becomes invloved. If they want to hunt that bad then they should go out and buy thier own land.

Good to see you back around here Dave. [8D]

Cay,it seems like the term "redneck" is just not that applicable to people living in Northeast
Ohio, I mean southeastern Ohio, yes, butNortheastern Ohio?

They were hunting with a gun duringbow season. They are poachers in my book and they would get reported. I hate poachers. Poachers are as bad as thiefs. I hate thiefs as well...
