how do you that care of a velvet buck after the kill can I get it home and in the freezer till I get it to the tax?

Make this post in the taxi forum. Might get more responses there. I would talk to my taxi first, and see what he wants me to do. I think you need to drain the blood out of them as soon as possible.

Ihave put it on the taxi forum but there is knowone that has a answer. There has to be some precations and things to do with the velvet. Ya thats why I tried here. Thanks

I shot one that was half velvet 3 years ago Sept 16th, 1 day after bow season opened in MD. They didnt do anything to it special. Cut the skull off, and let it hang on the wall until they were ready to mount it afew months later. Still looks just like it did when I shot it.

From my understanding the tax will freeze dry the antlers. Just turned in a velvet deer that got hit buy a car.

I believe most taxidermists are freeze drying velvet deer. I shot a velvet buck last season and that's what the taxidermist I took it to did. He charged me an additional $100 to have it done though.
