Preseason Checklist......
Well, archery season is looming, and it's time (probably past time, actually) to begin the preseason checklists....This is another thought for a journal entry, so I am interested in all the information ya'll can provide. I know the things I check over, such as making sure all bolts are tight on my bow, my stand is safe to use, clothes are washed, that kind of thing....I know there are things out there I don't think of that need to be checked just prior to season, and I'm looking for your input.
Also, what are some of your last minute purchases that need to be made? Scent elimination soaps and so forth, stuff like that.... |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
I'm gonna need a bigger freezer.
;) On a serious note .....I have been trying to make sure I have a "home" for all the venison I see on the horizon. It's tougher than you might think......but I won't shoot unless it has a good home. First 8 or so are spoken for. |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
ORIGINAL: GMMAT I'm gonna need a bigger freezer. ;) edit; You know, that's actually a great point. For the hunters that DO plan on shooting quite a few deer, have preperations been made as to what they will do with it all. Also, has everything from the previous season been consumed? Good thought... |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
mobo...
This is a good thread.....if, for no other reason, it'll get people thinking about making those last minute adjustments and preparations. I've been doing a little at a time. And remember.....our does don't look like yours (I saw the photo of one of yours from last year??). Wow.;) |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
We're down to the short rows on consumption. It's worked out perfectly.
If you have a bunch of venison left.....might think about taking one less? I don't know. I just hate to see 'em wasted as much as anyone. |

RE: Preseason Checklist......
Get new string on my bow[X(]...sharpen broadheads....hang stands....
|
RE: Preseason Checklist......
My wife and I bought a new house, and we have a big freezer in the basement, which hopefully will be fully stocked with venison. Last year I held off on another deer because of storage problems.
About the only thing that I have left to do is buy new shrink tubing for my climber's cables. I also need a new quiver, can't decide 1 or 2 piece though. Any suggestions? |

All great ideas guys.....What are some of the things we check to make sure are in working order, and good condition?
|
RE: Preseason Checklist......
I'm leaning toward the one piece as well. I wish Bowtech made a more stylish one, like the Fuse ones.

All great ideas guys.....What are some of the things we check to make sure are in working order, and good condition? To answer the question, I'd probably say my marriage, 'cause that's what's going to take the most abuse during deer season.:D:D Seriously, all of my gear isbrand new and never been in the field. Hey, it's my first year. |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
I'm still looking for a safety harness, a little more camo for layering, and an extra tripod stand (back order).
But my bow rig is ready to go. I could go hunting today. [8D] |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
New batteries for my camera.
Signed permission slips from all landowners. Practice and more practice! To be continued.... |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
Check range finder batteris as well.
|
RE: Preseason Checklist......
Is my bow tuned like it should walk back and paper tuning are essential
|
RE: Preseason Checklist......
This is a good thread. My son will bowhunt for the first time this year. We bought him a HSS vest harness and bought both of us new ones too. Hopefully this weekend we can get them on and try them out and make sure everything is adjusted properly.
I think the other thing on a checklist is practice and not just straight on target, but from an elevated location, different angles, anything to make it realistic. |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
Get my bow. I just went and paid for the 337 and the Cardiac has already been taking care of.
And mobow I looked up the weight of the Vectrix and its about 5.2lbs not a hair over 4lbs [:-] |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
Oh yeah...
A good knife sharpener.....hahaha;) |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
For gear I need a new backpack, boots, and a few other clothing items.
But the biggest thing I need is not any kind of equiptment. I need to get my arse in shape for my elk hunt in Alberta. I leave Sept 5th, so at least I have2 more weeks than Greg/Mo has! |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
Good thread mobowhuntr
I went thru all my stuff yesterday checking my stands , climbing sticks and all of my gear couldn't believe how much I have gotten over the years. The only thing that I really need is some new broadheads for my arrows and I'm good to go ... by the way I got those wraps from onestringer on my arrows and they look awesome. Can't wait to put some thru a buck ot two. :) |

RE: Preseason Checklist......
Tags, don't forget the tags.
I actually know a guy who's son forgot to buy his tags and had to buy one after he shot a deer. Lots of no scent shower gel and shampoo. More scent killer spray. I need to fletch some more arrows for hunting. Shoot my new bow with broadheads, haven't tried that yet. To be continued....... |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
I know its getting late but I want to acquire one more piece of land before October. I alsojust bought my very first trail camera, Stealth I450. Its going up this weekend. Need some new boots as well.:(

RE: Preseason Checklist......
things to check are things like stands, checking up on land permission etc. we all should be shooting well tuned bows...hunting gear can be gathered and put together later.
my plans?? im behind. i bought a groundhog gun ive always wanted instead of doing my bow make over. i need a string and arrows to be ready to go. gibblet should have my stings to me shortly...i will have the arrows by then and have them put on and arrows finished all the same day. should leave me with time to tune, broadhead tune and keep shooting before i leave back to college. if im not broadhead tuned before i go back to college i will be panicing. school starts late august or something...gives me about a month...but i only have 2-3 days a week to come home and shoot...i want to come home and shoot, not fidgit around tuning etc. i plan to camo all my stands. even my summit viper. plan on using atleast a lock on and ladder this year..if not 2 of each..depends on what i get permission to hunt and where i can leave stands. but i cant stand that nasty grayish greenish color the stands are...they are getting camoed. also want to put the new summit skins on after the paint job, and also some of that sandpaper type gripping material on the summit...it got slick last year and i didnt like that. purchases?? dead down wind for sure...strings and cables already ordered, CX terminator select hunters, tiger stripped blazers for them, probably fuse string shox anda G5 meta peep and a new teflon cable slide...hopefully smoothes things farther and stops the chatter i noticed when drawing in wet weather. would like a 2nd release and waterproof, breathable pants to go along with the jacket i bought last winter. already got everything else i can think of...weather or not i get the extras depends on what i got left after im done working for the summer. i doubt i will be working during Christmas break, so i gotta keep some cash to make up for that this year... heading towards college tomarrow with the groundhog gun. my goal is to gain permission to hunt groundhogs on atleast 1-3+ private farms tomarrow...hunt the groundhogs on weekends till school and evenings after im at school, then use my groundhog hunting to get me permission to bowhunt. i need private land to hunt at school. the gamelands and such get pounded. if its not bowhunters, its small game and turkey hunters. and i would like something within a 10 or 15 minute drive...that would be nice.. cant wait... just thought...checking harnesses and climbing systems etc would be a smart idea...like the tie off ropes, carribeaners etc....i know my tie off rope got kinda fuzzy...im definently checking to see if its fuzz or rips and tears or anything serious...and going to check the harness to make sure it didnt tear or anything somehow...saftey is #1 |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
I just hope I get out this season more than a few times. The way it looks, I may be closing on a new house about 2 weeks before the CT season opens. Moving will most likely impact my hunting this year.
I have 2 pieces of land that I may be getting permission on, I need to seal the deal. Saw either a piebald or an albino on one of them during turkey season at a distance. Hope to see it a little closer this fall :) Just bought 3 thermacells for $12.90 each, with 2 cartridges and 6 mats per pack so I should be set there. Great deal at BJ's Wholesale Club, check it out if you have one near by. Need to sharpen broadheads and wash clothes. |
RE: Preseason Checklist......
