I just bought a real nice Benchmade Model 800 Folder, that my Buddy had in his little Shop for a couple years.
They discontinued thatKnife now, and instead amke a Model 806...

They're really overpriced. You get just as much serviceability out of a plain old Gerber folding knife at about 1/3 the cost. Custom/super expensive knives are really a rip off to me. I have a drawer full of "NAME" knives but my knife for everyday and hunting use is a plain old Gerber.

Yeah the Custom Knives are really high. I only have the one I have now... due to a trade.
However, if I kill a smaller Buck... like a 4 point for instance... I think it's neat to have a pair of Knives made up from the Crown of the Anlters. I'm in the process of having 2 made now... I guess it's the sentimental Value, knowing that you killed it. Makes it nice, They run $110 a piece, and the Benchmade cost $100.
I won't need anymore Knives anywhere soon though now... :)<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Gerber is actually a pretty expensive knife if you get the good ones. Benchmade is an excellent company, or at least they used to be. They make a quality blade. I think they used to be Ballisong or something like that made some of the best butterfly knives you could get. At least in the '80's any way. I have looked at some of the newer ones made by benchmade and they are still pretty nice. Runs around 90 bucks, that is not bad for a quality butterfly knife.


If I am going to buy a knife I plan on spending between 60 and 100 dollars, depending on the style and type of knife. I have some cheaper ones, and they work ok, especially if you don't mind sharpening them. But I would rather have a quality knife in my hand, be it hunting, working, or playing.

I also love gerbers, probably some of the best blades for the money sometimes.

9Point: so where do you send something like that to have a knife made? I might spring for bucks for something like one of my deer horns on the handle.

My son has a benchmade and it is an outstanding knife. I happen to like knives the way some guys like rifles and handguns.

Benchmade uses high end steel and other components that will last a lifetime of very rugged use. Good stuff.

I do like Benchmade knives. They are solid and serve a variety of needs. I prefer knives that are capable of easily being opened with one hand.

Paul-Ballisong is another term for a butterfly knife. I currently own a Benchmade Ballisong.

I know that was a very popular term When they were big, it's hard to find them now though. And I usually saw it in conjuction with the benchmade symbol(the little butterfly) So I assumed it was a trade name or something. I know when you said Ballisong, people associated it with the benchmade knives. I thought that used to be the name of the company in the 80's. I don't recall seeing the benchmade name until about 5 or 6 years ago.

Oh well, shows what I know. Awsome knives at any rate. You hand me a Benchmade, Kershaw, or Gerber and I will be a happy man with any of them. I also like the Spyderco's, but have had three of them stolen, so I gave up on carrying them!

Love my Gerbers there is a man lives in East praire mo
makes a beautiful knife no folders but they are works
of art charged me 80.00 its almost to nice to use gut
hook,horn handle he comes into the doctors office where
my wife works!
