dangerous coon

well, i caught the coon that's been stealing chickens out of our coop, caught him in there. all i had was a target arrow ready, so i puta hole in him. he busted out the roof and was dragging the arrow thru the woods where one of our dogs, pops, was waiting. pops engaged him alone instead of waiting on the other 2 dogs to get over there. here's the result...... don't look if you're queasy, or in a place where you can't grab your package and give thanks.

the rip goes almost all the way around. the vet couldn't believe his red rocket man was only scuffed and he didn't have to be turned into a girl [:-]
he has to wear a lamp shade on his head for a week so he can't get at it.

I am after the coon that got into our chickens right now. There is a live trap set and I scout around each night but I am carrying the 20gauge. No field point here :D.

Wow, I'm glad to hear he is still a he.

What was the end result for the coon?

RE: dangerous coon

we heard pops cry while the fight was on, and jamie said 'go do something about it.' i'm standing in my boxers and no shoes at this point. 3 dogs and a coon 20 yards into the thick woods. i looked at her and said 'you've got to be kidding me, why do you think we buy their dog food?'
i think she now understands why i've been telling her to never engage a coon at close range.

RE: dangerous coon

they finished the coon by the way. 2 elkhounds and a mix of some type. the mix is only a year - but she's quick and agile and was the leader when the fight had drug to where i could see. i don't hunt them, but they spend all day hunting the bowl we live in. the female elkhound is hunting crazy. she would make someone a fine coon and/or bear dog. got an incredible nose.

Man, I'm glad he's ok, and I know it could have been a bad deal, but to read your telling of the story nearly had me in tears.....

Red Rocket Man only scuffed.......That's funny right there....:D

Wonder if Pops realizes why that coon was so mad to begin with?:D Thats gotta hurt.

gibblet 07-12-2007 08:52 AM

RE: dangerous coon

they all headed down to the coop w/ jamie. she didn't realizewhy before opening the door to let the chickens out, but pops had smelled something, walked over to the corner of the coop near the woods - the corner the coon had climbed, and then headed into the woods. she didn't think a thing about it, and we were both surprised when we heard him pounce it. i think he went back there and just laid up on the coons trail, just waiting. i honestly think he just understimated the size of the fight in a coon. i don't think he'll make that mistake again.

Damn, glad he is doing ok John. Coons are nasty SOB's. I alwayls look in my trre before climbing up. The last thing i want is one attaching itself to my face 20 ft. off the ground. My dads dog just got one about a year ago, it had climbed the fence into our yard. He is a 175 lb. Alaskan Malamute so it didn't last to long for the coon. They are nasty little buggers when they are cornered.

And thats why we circumcise when we are just days old. Couldnt imagine doing that now...........so now your dog is Jewish? So when is his barmitzfah? Sorry, I am gald your dog is ok. It is weird I had a coon as a pet when I was younger and we also had 2 dogs. They all got along. Coon used to sit on my shoulders as I walked around.........
