10 pointer I GOT THIS ONE RIGHT!

I had the opportunity to hunt down state during the holidays while visiting relatives. I was hunting on a small parcel of land that is hunted very little but is in a general area that receives quite a bit of pressure.
Being post rut and in an unfamiliar area, my expectations were at best for a shot at a doe. I set a stand up one afternoon on the edge of some thick cover where I noticed several big rubs but from how long ago? But the area looked good anyway, even though I knew the rubs were probably irrevalent.
I did not hunt that day, but planned on hunting it the next day.
That next morning, I had shot opportunities at two different basket racked bucks, but preferred to let them walk, prefering to let them grow and wait for a doe. It was much to my surprise when about 1 hour later, I looked directly below me and saw a 10 point, wide rack deer. He came from directly behind me and was moving away when I attached the release to the string. The faint click of doing so was enough to cause the deer to bolt back into thick cover.
I had a marginal shot, but remembering my unpleasant experience from a month ago, I opted for either a better shot or no shot at all. I really thought that my chance had passed, but after a few minutes the deer settled down and moved back out in front of me. Even though I was fairly exposed because of the lateness in the season, I was high enough at about 20 feet to be able to draw as he walked behind a small bush. I had a quartering away shot at 22 yds and took it. The arrow was on target which made the recovery of less than 75 yards easy with a good blood trail.
I am thankful to be able to end the season (except for a weekend hunt in Arkansas in January)on a much higher note than before. The deer has a 19" spread and gross scored 134.

Beautiful buck cods, congratulations. I have yet to take a good buck this year, but I still have a couple of weeks left, maybe I will get lucky. At least I have venison in the freezer, and even if I dont get a good buck, I had a great season.
