Tazman, as far as the brisket shot goes, I wouldnt take it, risky shot. Now if you want a good target for fieldpoints or broadheads the BLOCK is hard to beat, I have been shooting mine for about 4 yrs. and it is still stopping them real good and I shoot alot.
There are a couple more layered targets that may be as good, one is made by McKenzie and the other one is called the HOLE.

I have bad luck with targets because I practice so much. I wore out "the block" in two months. The arrows blow right through it. And my 3d target got shot in half right behind the shoulder. I was shooting this one with my recurve. I did that one in two weeks. I don't shoot broadheads. But if you shoot that much, thier's not much that will stop the arrows without hurting them.

taz straight on "perfect" or not....please don't take that shot w/a bow. the chances of "murphy's law" playing a major role in the outcome is enevidable.

as for a good broadhead target.....get a 3d target like mckenzie or delta. they'll stop your arrows and they have replacable centers. also "the block" works fine.

A shot straight on from the "OTHER" end is just as deadly. Just make sure he turns his head to the left and coughs when you squeeze. Make sure the arrow enters the ole butt hole and travels up to the heart. Makes about as much sense to me. Poor percentage shot for most people. A deer doesn't have to move only a hair or you only have to be off a hair to have the arrow slip along the outside of the chest wall and catch nothing but a lot of tracking and grizzle with what appears to be a lot of blood at first. If a deer is facing ME head on.... at some point in time I'm going to get a better shot. He'll pass by, or turn left or right or something. Get drawn when you can and wait him out.

David I had an 8 point present me with a head on shot, I didn't take it and as I have said a few time since I started this thread I won't take this shot. This 8 point was walking straight up one of my left hand shooting lanes, I kept waiting for him to turn, well he slowly drifted further to the left still facing me and once he was 10 yards away and just out of the shooting lane was when he turned broadside, then continued on his merry way, AWAY from me!

Folks please read some of my other post in this thread, I have said several times I would not take this shot, I have passed on a few deer presenting this shot.

Oh BTW David I beleive with a buck the shot is considerably lower when you are waiting for him to turn his head to the left and cough!! LOL

Taz, look on ebay. There's a guy who sells foam targets you can shoot broadheads into. Mine is 20x20x30. $30. I can shoot all sides. For field points I like a good bag target. Morrell 50,000. $69.

I see that you've already had the shot placement question answered. I had to track and recover a deer a guy I used to hunt with shot in the brisket like that. It went about 500 yards or so. He never would have found it, and if I wasn't so damn stubborn, I might not have, either. Bad shot, but you already knew that.

Also, I think you're wasting your time shooting at foam, making a target, going to Wal-Mart, etc. I highly recommend the Morrel Eternity targets. They truly are two-finger removal, long-lasting targets. I'm going to get another one this year, but shot my previous one for going one three or four years. It's still fine, but a couple of the spots are starting to get &quot;shot out&quot;. For safety and ease, I really think they can't be beat.

I just got one of the Morrell Eternity targets (on clearance at Wal-Mart for $12 or so) and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. The design seems like it's not meant for broadheads, but it's doing very well with field points. I took about 10 shots at it from 8 feet away just to see if I could punch an arrow through it and none went through, even after I put four arrows in a row right into the same spot. For broadheads, I would just go with The Block and deal with the destruction that broadheads do if you practice all the time with them.
