Muzzy Stories Good or Bad

How many people have ever had a Muzzy fail them? Any stories of extreme victory? I thought this may be a good story telling thread...

For me personally... Never failed

All deer that I have hit have gone down... In three years 6 for 6

I shot 1 deer ( ya'll know what it was ) opening day 2 years ago. Straight down shot, never knew what hit her. Run her through, and she trotted off about 50 yards and looked back, as if to say "What was THAT?" Then fell over dead....Pretty cool.

I shot my 6 point last year with a muzzy. It went 30 yards and died, shot went through the shoulder bladeinto the lung.

I had a buddy recommend Muzzy 3 blade 100 gr. last year. This was after years of shooting mechanicals. Needless to say it did the job. Hit this guy in the neck and STONED him. Muzzy's got a life'r after that display.:D

I think I have about 10 deer w/ muzzies. I don't think a muzzy can 'fail'. They are rock solid, and dependable. Recently though, I've been having problems getting them to fly straight. I'm going w/ rage this year.

I have never had a Muzzy fail me yet, sure had alot of Thunder Heads fail me though. All the deer I have shot with a Muzzy have dropped within 50 yards.

I've shoy muzzy's for 5 years and have got all 4 of the 5 deer I've shot at. The one I didnt get was not a mechanical issue, i misjudged the distance. I love my mathews-easton-muzzy combination.

I killed 2 deer and a turkey with the same brodhead/arrow couple years ago. Muzzy 4 blade 100 grain. Great heads!

RE: Muzzy Stories Good or Bad

im 2 for 3 with my muzzys, and both deer i killed only ran 30 yards or less, i went threw a shoulder and a lung and it came out the other side.

I have been using Muzzys for ever it seems like. Have never had one fail or break. There rock solid heads. And the 6 pack price is not to bad, about the same as price of most new 3 pack heads.

Nothing but good results with Muzzy. I have mangled a few blades shooting hogs but recovered all the animals I've hit. Better results with Muzzy than my muzzleloader!

2 hawgs...3 deer...1 squirrel withmuzzy. They are lethal. They plane on me though so I'm going to try something new this year.

I kinda figured you were going to get a long string of success stories with the Muzzy. I consider them to be the "Remington 870" of broadheads. Their only real issue has been flight. Sometimes, the original ones will not group as well as field points and/or group to a different place. Tuning can often solve this problem. But sometimes not. It seems like the new MX series of Muzzy's are designed to fly better - particularly out of faster bows.

I've taken at least 40 does with muzzys in the past 3 years and finnally tried the shuttle T broadhead and was amazed at the entrance and exit wound from them. there brutal.

I keep a asortment of broadheads just to keep experimenting, try diferent heads with other fletching combonations and see how they fly

One cow elk at 33 yards through the top of the ribcage and into the lungs...muzzy 3 blade intact with one blade slightly bent. No complaints here...

IT wont penetrate the shoulder at 58 lbs but about 3 inches so i am now shooting 70 and G5 strykers;)

Have to agree with Rackluster.... Muzzy's all the way. Never seen one malfunction and flat gets the job done. No-nonsense broadhead. Maybe not as "cool" as some of the newer ones, but NONE are better.

Shoulder of a deer?
yep my rest got knocked off and i hi the deer high and left of the vitals in the shoulder bone he got away alive

RE: Muzzy Stories Good or Bad

Wow. You must have scored a direct hit on the ball/socket of the shoulder. Muzzy's are known for superb bone penetration. They will often punch right through the shoulder blade of an elk. But that ball/socket of the shoulder or hip are pretty tough for any arrow to get through.

I switched from Muzzy 100gr. 3-blades to Montecs. Im not crazy about the idea of having an aluminum body on my broadhead. I had a few that didnt fit square onto my Axis shafts right out of the package. They have been known to mess up HIT inserts after hitting anything harder than foam also.

Oneshot7 07-01-2007 02:24 PM

RE: Muzzy Stories Good or Bad

about 2 to 3 inches of penetration and 20 drops of blood all he did was get a shot. It was directly on the shoulder and high close to no mans land and i knew it after he was running off[:'(]

Roskoe 07-01-2007 02:31 PM

RE: Muzzy Stories Good or Bad

I am also currently using the Montecs - but I still have a fairly high regard for the Muzzy. A guy I know who guides for one of the famous high dollar ranches in New Mexico swears by them. In fact, they won't allow expandables on this property.

PSE - when you put the Muzzy on the Axis arrow with the HIT insert, did you use the broadhead adapters?

Ive killed quite a few deer with them. I have had trouble in the past gettin them to fly right though

i just dont like how flimsy the blades are and how they dont fly good, thats why i dont shoot muzzy

Shot a doe with mx-4 last year, one lunged her , blood everywhere, she ran 50 yards. Any of you folks who have had blood trail issues with the old muzzy's will love these, huge hole, size of the bottom of a styrofoam cup. Also the old muzzy's 3 blade 100gr on a microcrometer only measured 7/8 cutting dia. The new ones MX series measure what they say them to be.

I did not. Looking back I wish I would have experimented with it more. I have nothing against Muzzy broadheads but I just love the 1 piece design G5 has.
