What new addition this year?
 

Other than the big stuff, bows, arrows, that type of thing, what the one "gadget" or piece of equipment you will be adding to your arsenal this fall that you just won't head to the woods without?

Me? A Thermacell. After seeing them in action last weekend, I GOTTA get me one of those...

Not a gadget but I'll be bringing a bit more discretion with me. I won't shoot any buck I see. It will have to meet a greater criteria than being a buck.

Hopefully my daughter.She went 1 time last year because her schedule is so full.Hopefully this year she can make a few more trips.

I just hope her arm is strong enough by then since it is in a cast right now and has about 4 weeks before it will be removed.She is right handed but shoots left handed because that is her dominant eye and her left arm is the one she broke.It is already her weaker arm and she was just starting to be able to pull up into the 35# range.Don't know what will happen with that.:eek:


So,now more on topic.I was kinda thinking a new bow but at this moment,I am trying to rid myself of debt and have just about succeeded but have a few more bills and months to go.I really don't need anything so I doubt I will add too much.I just bought a new set of bibs and parka for myself for christmas(last year)so that is covered.

I did just purchase a thermacell but at 24.00 bucks,hardly a big purchase.

40 acres of wooded timber 70 miles from my house that is infested with deer. That's my new gadget!!!! I drove around about a mile in each way from my land tonight and saw 63 deer! about 1/4 mile down the road from my land I walked within 30 yards of two bedded bucks. One just stood broadside looking at me. This is gonna be easy:eek:.

Some sorry, no good, dirty @#%! stole my late 60's vintage Buck 110 folding hunter out of my truck at a tournament about 10 years ago. I'd carried that knife every day from the moment I'd gotten it. Tried all kinds of other 'updated' knives trying to replace my old buddy. I got some great knives, but I still missed the old Buck. So, a while back a newspaper sales circular said Buck 110's were on sale and since I was going to be passing close to the store anyway....

Now I've got to go buy a new Kabar combat knife to replace the one I broke and complete my retro hunting cutlery ensemble. :D

I bought an 05 Yamaha Rhino last week. It came lifted(Gorilla lift)with 29.5" tires, a roof, 3000lbs winch w/remote and get this--a CD player! No joke! I got it to replace the Honda Foreman stolen from me 2 years ago.

"Tracer" lighted arrow nocks. First time I will ever use any lighted nock while hunting.
They work awesome and are if nothing else.........fun.:D

Man, I already carry a thermacell, rangefinder, and luminocks. I just got a new bow and am trying to keep a two piece quiver that stays attached. I'm shooting with it and like it so far. Up to now, I've always used a Kwikee and taken it off when I got up in the tree. This year, I'm going to use a two piece and keep it on the bow.

- Lots of summer scouting thus far in new areas, looking for an oldbuck or two towatch. Found one hawg so far on private landthat I can't hunt, but I believe from the direction he enters a big field at night he could be close to bedding on timber company ground. I was out there today snooping around. Looks very promising because the fence he is crossing is only 150 yards into the timber, I can hunt the other side.

- New site, Copper John Dead Nuts Hunter Pro2 - awesome lowlightsight for those of us that can't use any type of lighted device.

- STS, like it.

- Ordered a complete new 3-D coveral leafy scent lok lined suit, out of my latest Cabelas on their "one time" deal. My brother got it last year and I was so impressed I bought one. Its going to be great for hunting off the ground "hit and run" type set ups. I am going to be much more mobile and less intrusive with this style of attack. Who says you can't kill mature bucks off the ground on public lands :). Ibelieve it can be consistently done, time will tell.

I have considered having one of these put on my lease instead of a camper. Add a little ac and heat, a couple of bunks built in and you have a cheap cabin!
