ThermaCell's

Have any of you used a Thermacell while deer hunting? I read that they are not odorless and deer can smell them? Anybody know if this is true?

Thanks

They do have a slight odor. Down south they are necessary for hunting the swamps. They work great.

I take one with me every time I go out. I killed 3 deer with my bow last year. ranges were 7-24 yds. I had the Thermacell on during every hunt.

Yes they do have an oder, But I think deer just don't know that it belongs to humans yet. Give it a couple of years after they smell that smell and then get shot at and they will start putting two and two togather.. Walt

Some of the MoBo Boy's used them at the bon fire during the the HNI's get together and yes they do have an order to them but they work great.

Like it's been said...they do have an odor but it does not seem to bother deer. My last two deer I shot I had a thermacel going.

Yea they work great! As said before they have a slight odor but I have never had a deer spook because of it. I wish i would have gotten mine out of the truck for the smackdown. I'm still itching from the bites...lol

Interesting isn't it?

The fact that we spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on odor eliminating products, yet we spend $21 on a mosquito repellent that produces an odor and swear that the odor doesn't spook deer...

Food for thought. ;)

I used them all last season during deer hunting as well as my spring turkey hunts! They work.

It means hunt the wind and it DOESN'T matter.:D

On a side note,DON'T stick it to your nose and see if you can smell that odor.I did it the other night at a baseball game and I still am having some trouble with my throat.

their a must where i hunt. i carry 2, one as a back up. if for some reason they both don't work, my hunt is over. almost impossible to hunt here in the swamps of Florida without one.

Need to get one that has a earth scent or some other deer hunting related scent to it.

All reports that I have heard is that they don't readily spook deer or bear. I would not use one unless I really needed it, then I wouldn't hesitate. An alternative is to spray your facemask and hat with permanone repellent in the yellow can. It dries odorless, and will keep the skeeters off reasonably well.

I haven't been impressed with the stuff. i don't understand how it could work on any day that has any breeze at all.

Bears suppossedly can out smell a deer, and they worked great for bear hunting. We saw bears. Better than the hand movement of swatting a mosquito IMO. They perform flawlessly and are actually one of those products that works and is actually worth three times what they sell for.
