Do you KNOW the law in YOUR state?

Anyone KNOW the law in their state RE: which hunter has rights to a deer that is wounded by 2 separate hunters?

Thanks.

I'm almost positive WI is the hunter who puts the final kill shot on is entitled to the animal. Not sure about Iowa, this will be my first year bowhunting Iowa.

Iowa is the same, the final kill shot gets possession.

I don't understand why people fight over a deer. If it was me and the first person shot the deer, it ran for 100 yards and I put the final kill, I would just give the deer to the first person unless that person doesn't want it.

But to answer the question, I don't remember seeing WA regs on this topic. But the majority of state is that the person with the final kill gets the deer. Now I heard horror stories about people taking advantage of this. They saw a deer downed bysomeone. Put a shot through and claims it. Is this ethical?

im about 90% sure PA says first blood gets the deer.

i dont like that...

that means when some weekend warrior shoots a deer in the hoof and i shot it through the heart like cupid, and it dies within 40yds of my tree and i watch it happen that the weekend warrior gets to take MY deer home...

i will fight that all day up and down...id hope no LEOs would even fight for that hoof shooter...

now...make a gut shot..liver shot..whatever...something where the deer is going to die eventually and i finish it off and you do your part (wait the right amount of time etc etc and follow up on it properly) and you come up following the trail to find me gutting it and explain it all i will give it up...

but you dont prove you shot it too dang bad...its mine...you show me the blood trail you followed from your stand to mine to where the deer died and you can have the deer...

no mauser its last shot at the deer.

My dad and several other people I know made killing shots on deer only to have it run a little ways and get shot(at) by another and theytook it.

I thought in PA it was the person who shot last? I've seen the second person claim the deer every time.

was taught in a seminar put on years ago by missouri bowhunter education that first mortal wound should get the animal. but i hunted busch wildlife area years ago when they allowed 300 hunters in at a time. there were many arguments about whose deer. my friend and i all shot with string trackers back then to eliminate all doubt.

Ohio.........The first one to put a tag on it. A third hunter who has not even shot the deer can walk up to it, put a tag on it, and that deer is legally his or hers.

You guys know me.....It doesn't affect me. I was simply curious.

Heck....as long as it's a doe.....I can double lung her on my hunting land.....and you can have her if you beat me to her!

Simply curious.....that's all.

Yes Zuba you would be correct, the one who actually kills the animal gets the animal. Thats how I have always known it to be.
