Sight Pin Question
 

I sighted in my 50 yard pin today, and it is MUCH lower than my 40 yard pin. The 20, 30, and 40 yrd. pins are all one after another, but there is quite a dropoff between 40 and 50. Is this common?

With my old bow it was amazing how much differnt the 30 to 40 and 40 to 50 yard pins were. It just depends on you bows speed. If it's really fast it will fly straight longer. All bows will have a sharp decline a some yardage it's a matter how far out it goes.

Many factors determine this but it is not uncommon...if it's on....it's on.

That is because at one point in flight you loose velocity and the bottom falls out. Mine does that at 70 yards. But I shoot an extremely fast bow.

Yes, it is common, especially for hunting arrows with large vanes, helical fletching, heavy arrows, heavy points. I switched from 29" aluminum 2413 arrows, with 5" helical fletching, and 125g thunderheads to 27" axis arrows, blazer vanes, and wasp jakhammers in order to retain velocity and more KE downrange.

The arrows I'm shooting are a little over 400 gr., and I just switched from ones that were about 330 and had Blazers instead of standard 4" vanes, so I'm sure the drop off wouldn't be as bad with my old ones. I'm going to keep shooting both, and decide on which ones I want to use.

Yes that is common, Keep in mind that the farther the arrow flies the more velocity it will loose and when the speed goes down the drop off becomes more severe. If you are hitting where you are aiming with your 50yd pin then its on, and trust it
