How do I get in on a team for this fall?

Lookn' to get on a team for the fall. Any takers? I did just acquire a parcel of private land to hunt on this fall. Or will bribes work?

I don't think it is opened yet, but the rifle one is.

Good point. Wasn't it just about this time last year that we started the sign-ups? I need to hear some smack-talkin'!

:)

Wasnt there a rule last year about being in only ONE HNI contest? Am I wrong about this? Can a person be in the gun AND bow contest, simultaneously?

If there is i need to be takin out of the gun contest. I would rather be in the bowhuntingside of it.

There's no rules about anything. The only officially-sanctioned contest is the Bowhunting contest, but as long as either Mods or some generous soul agrees to run the other contests they are more than welcome too. Feel free to sign up for as many of them as you wish, it doesn't matter much to us. The more the merrier. ;)

As for the official sign-ups for this year's bowhunting contest, I believe they usually start sometime around the 1st of August, and wrap up about the 1st of September. That way we're ready to rock for the seasons that open early. Be patient guys, we'll get there soon enough.

You're correct, Justin.

This is what I remembered seeing:

5. Open to all members new and old unless your signed up in another bow contest on HNI(only), please don't sign up and disappear, you'll be replaced. No more than 10 persons per team, drawn randomly....alternate's when necessary starting with first come first serve....I'll oversee it.

RE: How do I get in on a team for this fall?

GMMAT,

People who want to do both should stop and give it some thought. For people who hunt all the time and consistently take game, it would be a no brainer. But I'm considering not doing the bowhunting one this year b/c of my lack of experience and the fact that I'm not a dedicated bowhunter. In my case, with the amount of bowhunting I am able to do I would be spread to thin to offer a reasonable chance of helping a bowhunting team (Now if we institute that doe rule I'm sure I would assist :D).

I have been working really hard on getting a nice buck the last couple years, and come the rut I will have a rifle in my hands.

From what I've gathered, I will probably move more and more into bowhunting and may just do the bowhunting contest for 08.

Of course I will now proceed to kill a big buck with my bow and nothing with my rifle. Not that I would be complaining.

RE: How do I get in on a team for this fall?

LeBeau...

I hear ya....and while it IS for "fun"....people are still competitive. Buckeye and I don't always agree (doh!).....but I respect his opinion....and I'm not sure does are a good idea for the contest (I've listened...and THEN formed my opinion).

And I think (it's MY opinion, only) that a person SHOULD recognize a little responsibility to their team and plan on actually BOWHUNTING for a buck.....until that window of opportunity has passed (like....the season has ended). I'll catch flack for that....but hey...you signed up for a BOWHUNTING contest. Hunt with your bow.

If you disagree with this.....don't get mad at me. It's only my opinion.

Da Woods: In order to get onto a team in this elite skills competition, first you have to be "sponsored" by a past or present champion. Usually, would-be contest entrants woo previous champs by mailing them gift cards to Cabelas, and coupons for free Extra Value Meals.

Then, if you're lucky enough to find a sponsor, you have to perform several "rites of passage." The Rites of Passage include but are not limited to:
[ul][*]a feat of extraordinary strength, such as killing a wolverine or wombat with your bare hands[*]a feat of extraordinary intestinal fortitude, such as eating a pack of fishing maggots[*]a feat of extraordinary marksmanship, such as killing a groundmole or field mouse from 75 yards away, with only a longbow. OR[*]a feat of extraordinary intelligence, such as deciphering the whitetail language or engineering a better mousetrap. [/ul]
Once a sponsor has been retained, and one or more "feats" have been attained, you will be eligible to sign up at the end of July.

You all might as well not sign up and save yourselves the embarassment. This is the first time any team is going to repeat.

Autumn Assassins will lead the way!

Seems pretty simple. You mean there aren't any real challenges?

RE: How do I get in on a team for this fall?

Basically this really really really old mean nasty guy on this site named Rob will let everyone know when to sign up, around mid July. Random teams are selected by number of people that enter after the few week entry cut off date. Then you have to shoot a buck and enter the score and a pic on a score thread which that mean old guy named Rob will either accept or deny the entry, the first bow buck you shoot for the season is your only scoring buck and you have to have a picture taken withyour bow in the picture of yourself or your only opportunityto enter an animal is overfor the year.

Then, you have to win a debate on the Bowhunting board against this other guy named Atlasman, if you are deemed the winner, then you entry is officially accpeted. Many have tried, all have failed.

Everything is accurate in this post accept the old manpart aboutRob, hes actually an ok nice guy

No wolverines or wombats here, but I did kill a Grizzly with one hand tied behind my back.
[ul][*]a feat of extraordinary intestinal fortitude, such as eating a pack of fishing maggots [/ul]
Had that for dinner with shark guts. (I even ate the liscence plate)
[ul][*]a feat of extraordinary marksmanship, such as killing a groundmole or field mouse from 75 yards away, with only a longbow.OR [/ul]
shot an apple out of a deer's mouth at 100yrds over my shoulder with a recurve.
[ul][*]a feat of extraordinary intelligence, such as deciphering the whitetail language or engineering a better mousetrap.[/ul]
I spoke with the 195 P&Y I'm gong to shoot on opening day. he said to say hello to you guys......He's heard of you all.
