I like Quality Whitetails Television and the Dury Outdoor Shows.

Shows actual hunts (Free and Fair Chase) (I forgot their slogan)... Informational (A lot of who, what, when, why, and where stuff)... Helping others out... Great People... Entertaing....What more could you ask for?

I like to see the interaction between hunters -- other than thank you for the opportunity to hunt blah blah blah and/or my professional guide blah blah blah (I am not sure what they say b/c blah blah blah is all I hear after that or I change the channel).

Plus, I like to see the animal from several sides. Got a nice rack with horns on the back? Turn the head sideways and show me. In fact, I want to see the rack from all sides, not just from the front and as a second thought.

And when you make a shot with a bow that drops a 430 pound hog in his tracks, show me the shot placement. I LOVE the shot placement corner on Archer's Choice. Being a novice bowhunter I want all the info about the shot I can get.

My two all time dislikes are (1) I drew back my trusty "Insert brand name here" bow and fired off my "Insert brand name here" with the "Insert brand name here" broadhead or I snapped the safety off on my "Insert brand name here." At the end of the hunt, if you want to mention that you used such and such, I am fine with that. Or a list of what you are using before the hunt is fine also. Just don't "Insert brand name here" during the hunt. And, (2) talking a mile a minute while we watch the animal approach. My husband and I both end up yelling at the TV "Just shut up!" Talk about the animal. Say he is getting closer. Here he is. Fine. But nonstop chatter is irritating as heck!

It's also annoying (to me).....when a grown man acts like a giddy teenager when they know the cameras are rolling (i.e. after a 'kill' shot).
I agree, I hate it when you can tell someone is almost in tears and faking it because they are oncamera. I also hate it when they are faking the tracking scene and they look at the direction or right at the animal a few times which you know they already found and pretend to suddenly see him 10 yards ahead and they get all excited, how cheesy.

I like describing why they put the stand there, why they are wearing a specific camo, what gear they are shooting with, some shots panning around the stand. As much footage before the shot, (once they decide the animal is a shooter) during and after the shot as possible.

I kind of like the drury brothers videos with the theme good things happen to good people. They have done some deer drives, misses, excitement and lots of deer. Good Thing
I also like them to be fair chase.
Maybe have a 1-3 minute tech corner where they give you tips on equipment.
Another I have thought about is have the hunter of course up in his stand and somehow have the camera man 50-60 (or farther) yards away and get him and the deer in the same frame and peforming the shot. Is that possible? The whole picture.

I dont like the team thing they are doing with dream season but thats me.
Also I seen this show and I wish I could remember the name on mens outdoor & recreation channel but this guy is a ground blind hunting deer and it seems the whole show this camera is right up to his mug and just drives me nuts.
Crying drives me nuts with the exception of Rick White when he killed one and remembered his dad I think it was on prime time 9 but not sure.
That one gets to me a bit hits home now. (shush germ lol )

For those of you who watch Bowhunting TV shows, what are your likes and dislikes about what you see with today's shows?

I'm looking for the specifics and the "little things" that make your favorite shows stand out above the rest to you. Is it the personality of the people on the show? Is it the quality of the footage? The number of kills in each episode? The places or game they hunt? The knowledge you learn during their shows?

And I'm also looking for the little things that drive you nuts that will make you not want to watch that show again. Whether it's product sponsorships, too many commercials, bad shots, bad camera work, bad hosts, bad info, etc.

Let's hear it - the good and the bad, and what your perfect bowhunting/deer hunting TV show would be. Does there have to be a kill in every show, or would you settle for a guy who hunts his heart out and comes up short?

Discuss.

Dislike, the BS after the shot the jumping up and down and yelling, folks you just took a life, be thank full you made a good shoot and dispatched the animal quickly. There tracking is a joke they know were the animal is laying and how far it went. Show us some help how to make - mock scrapes- were and how to pick spots for tree stands and ground blinds-show some of the kids how the animal (deer) change with age so they know what different age deer look like. And we can go on. Rich K.

Others have touched on everything I want to see, so I will just tell you what I am so tired of seeing.

I am sick of bowhunters taking terrible shots at game and then saying that it is ok because it happens in bowhunting and excusing their poor choices. A couple of examples: Eastman's. Cameran shot at a mulie buck at over 50 yards in a wind that was well over 20 mph. He was lucky enough to spine the thing and then he went into how he first thought it was too windy, but I guess the idea of this big buck made it ok to take an ill advised shot. Another was on The Choice when some guy from Miami shot at a walking mule deer at 54 yards, gut shoots it, brags about the "good hit" and is just plain lucky enough to find the thing. There are a million more examples. The problem is that these guys who hunt and shoot all the time motivate people who spend just enough time shooting to sight in their bows and then not shoot again all season to think it is ok to just lob arrows at animals. It is dispicable. I know that they need footage of kills to get paid, but I like shows that show how hard the sport is and aren't afraid to say that they didn't get anything.

That is why I like Easton Bowhunting with Fred E. Sorry for the rant, but it is really getting bad as far as I am concerned.

-I like it real. It's ok to show if people miss or blow things, but I don't like to see a low percentage shot taken.
-I don't care for a whispering announcer as things play out.
-I don't like excessive celebration. You didn't win the stanley cup, you shot a deer for probably the 100th time in your life.
-It's ok to hunt real good places. Just don't say the outfitter 500 times.
-I don't care for every other word in the story to be a product placement, show a list before or after the hunt footage.
-I want time of year, weather and brief reason why you are where you are.
-I don't care to see pointless drawn out footage of an obscured deer. Briefly show it, but edit it to when it comes in for the shot
-Don't recreate ANYTHING. If you didn't get it as it happened, move on or air the tongue twisted version.
-If you want to give advice do it with out pushing a product down my throat.

Tell me why you put the stand where you put it.
Tell me why you expect the deer to come from that direction.
Tell me what gear you are using.

Do not whisper at the camera for 10 minutes to fill air time. Fill the air time with you taking a few practice shots or with why you are using a particualr broadhead.
Do not show 10 minutes of footage of deer grazing 100 yards away.

Most bowhunting show couldfill the air time with info pertinent to that particular hunt - How long you scouted, your arrow specs, your bow specs, why the camo you are wearing, why the rangefinder you are using, stuff like that.
The last 10 minutes of the show can be the actual shot, trail and find.

Ya im with you on that. Also, i hate when they say that their Scent Lok or Scent Blocker clothing they are wearing made all the difference in their hunt. They know most of us are a lot smarter than that and we know that that stuff is junk.

Just a few things to add to what others have said.

I absoulutely hate it when they cut away to staged shots from all different angles of the hunter drawing or aiming. If there were a camera there when the deer walked up he would have been long gone. As Will Primos (my hero) says, "THIS AINT HOLLYWOOD".

One camera over the hunters shoulder!

Maybe some aireal photos of the spot you picked to set up on, funnel, corner, food source.

And no outfitters, Private land where you do the work.

No, kills are not always necessary as long as it was entertaining, or taught us something.

Do away with the viagra, encite, vasimine, cialis, topical rush comercials. I think these are 1/3 of all comercials on huntin shows.
