Yes, yes, and YES! Some of my most memorable hunts came from carrying my climber and putting it up in a new spot .... love it

I think in an urban area a pop-up could work very well for you. The deer shouldn't be too "people shy". I would recommend brushing the blind in very well. Deer don't like new surprises in their habitat so use a lot of brush and make it look as natural as possible.

RE: same-day set up

Honestly, for the best results you need to set it up, cover with branches and try to break it up a little bit. You can do whatever you want to do, but that seems to work the best. Turkeys seem to be oblivious to the change in surroundings.

Spell check Preach :D

Heck yes. Took my son out on a late afternoon hunt and threw up a blind IN AN OPEN CUT CORN FIELD. We had deer all over us.

Be a little more clear here. Are you hunting somewhere you have permission? Back to the question though, obviously if it is a steep hillside a blind isn't going to work very well. I still think you should get a treestand. I know you said you are a big guy but look at the Summit Goliath.

If you are planning on doing something illegal maybe you should rethink it. If you persist maybe you should look elsewhere for advice. As Cougs mentioned could you explain that one a bit? No one here wants to help a trespasser or poacher!

He is probably talking about the "animal lovers" that dont want to see anyone hunting! I doubt he is openly discussing tresspassing. Lets just try to help with the question and not turn this into a whole different subject. I think we all know what assume means.....makes an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'!

If you have WRITTEN permisson, then screw what they think. Hunt it. Let them call the cops. They will get tired of coming after a while.

I think if you camo it well it would be your best chance of the day because when an area is hot with sign the time is right then to be setup.

My advice is buy a climber. You can hunt any of the property that way. Not just the flat side. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. Summit Goliath.

I would hunt it however I felt was the best way. There are laws protecting us from harrassment. ;) If it persisted, I would make a trip to the police station.

Yes, you did make an assumption. I did go back and read it all. Not until after we questioned him did he say he was concerned about animal lovers. We both made assumption, you were right ,I was wrong. That won't stop me from posting whatever I care to. If you don't like it use the block button on me. Thats what its for.

So thats the kind of person you are. I see how it is. Sorry, but I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt before I start posting unnecessary remarks. Its those like you who start issues. Before we start hammering on someone maybe we (you) should know what we(you) are talking about first. Maybe we both assumed, but the problem was you assumed the worst possiblity. I am not like that. Happy hunting!

RE: same-day set up

I have had great same day set up success with tree stands. With the blind I have had great success with antelope and turkey on same day setup and terrible with whitetail.

I assume you are hunting a semi-urban area, so the deer will be used to people, human traffic. I would also guess it is a reletively small hunting area. The deer are going to notice/see the blind right off the bat. My experience has been that they won't go running and blowing through the woods but they will see it and avoid it. If they notice the blind they aren't going to get close enough to it for a bowshot. 50-60 yards seems to be as close as they get to mine when they have seen it.

If you know where they are coming from try to get the blind brushed in around a corner so they don't notice it until they are close or already past the blind. If it is set where they can see it while approaching, even if brushed in, they will notice it and take a wide berth.

Look, I was wrong and I admit that. I asked him to explain. When he did I apologised to him. You didn't have a problem with hammering me about being an ass in an asumption. I did jump to conclusions. When people talk about having the law called on them it makes me think a law might be broken. I will try to refrain from being a smart ass. It won't be easy. As far as starting things goes, never in my 2 years on this forum have I had a debate like this one until now. Being called an ass rubs me the wrong way.

I don't understand how dragging in and setting up a blind is going to make you less visible to the people than sneaking in in just camo or hunting from a tree?

Also if you have permission and stuff, just tell the copsafter tehfirst timethey are going tocall the police every timeand the cops will ignore them. Do the cops follow you into thewoods? I doubt it. They wouldhave to be REALLY bored cops.
