Eating crow; Mathews

So I had a customer who comes in quite frequently bring in his new bow this evening. He had mentioned that he was going to upgrade from the PSE he had been shooting - and upgrade he did!

He purchased the Mathews Drenalin. First impressions, it was extremely light, well balanced, but those limbs just looked crazy.

After shooting it... Wow.

It was very quiet and had very little perceptable vibration. It did want to jump out of my hand a bit, but the only accessories that it had on it was the sight and rest. I'm sure a decent stabalizer would help with this.

He's bringing it back in tomorrow night, he was pressed for time tonight, but wanted me to take a look at it for him.

Most of you know I'm not a huge Mathews fan, but I have to admit, this is a fantastic bow.

Imagine that.........lol.

Most of the top end hunting bows out there now are so close in comparison it just makes me laugh when I see people talk about how they think theirs is so much better. Honestly I really liked all 4 of the Mathews bows I shot last year and shot them all exceptionally well.

True 'nuff.

For me, a lot of what I like and don't like these dayscomes down tothe weight of the bow and the thickness of the grip and how it sits in my hand.

I've shot a couple of the Switchbacks and don't much care for them, which is why I figured I would dislike the Drenalin. Go figure.

I agree..I might throw out a shot at another Bow Brand..but it's all tongue in cheek. The top line bows from any Mid-High level Company are fine instruments. It really comes down to what your preception of feel is and then aesthetics.

I've always thought Mathews makes a most excellent bow. It's just the hardcore Mathews clan is so touchy it makes it so much fun to pick at 'em...[8D]

Things have died down with those guys though. Not as much fun anymore. Thankfully, now we've got the whisker biskit dudes....

This is very true.

Only thing I don't like about Mathews is their grips and that they use those Zebra strings that stretch so bad. You'd think they would give you a WC or VT string when you drop that kinda loot.

I agree most of the high end bows are so close its more a matter of feel in the hand when shooting them. I am buying a new bow and was torn between the Vectrix, the Guardian and the Drenalin. I was extremely impressed with the Drenalin, felt incredibly light, blalanced, but I decided on the Guardian. If I were wealthy I would buy all 3 :)

Mathews came out with the competition grip a few years ago which a lot of people like. Personally, I still think they are two big and induce torque, but I prefer a low wrist grip.

The new Baracuda strings are much better than the old Zebra twist strings. No more stretch than WC or VT. They're all 452.

As RJ said, all the mid level and up bows are good. Once you reach that level the bow will always outshoot the guy holding it so it comes down to personal preference.
