Doe Balance thread
ok, since the buck vs doe shooting thing came up in another thread. Post here how many does you killed/whacked/harvested last year.
5 |
RE: Doe Balance thread
3
With the intent to double that this year. |
RE: Doe Balance thread
2, the most I can shoot is 3 and that's if I don't get a buck.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
3 though ones was beast of a deer, so 3.5:D
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
I let my herd down, last year. I only took one. I watched so many does.....looking for bucks, and I feel bad about it.
I hope to have taken 8 by season's end, 2007. In 3 years.....I think I'll be near 20. |
RE: Doe Balance thread
only one last year..........
This year is going to be different though. I plan to have 4 taken off the property and I will have 2 tags myself (hopefully). |
RE: Doe Balance thread
A big goose egg here[:@] Once i started looking for does to shoot they seem to avoid me like the plague.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Just one.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Just one. Meant to kill two. Stinking button buck mishap that I won't let happen again
.This year will have less outside hunters, so I plan on killing 3 (but that's with gun and bow). |
RE: Doe Balance thread
I only got 1, but in my county this year they have new limits so i plan on 4 or 5
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
0. Last year was the first year in many I have not shot a doe. I did not have a lot of time to hunt in bow season due to work and schooland got my buck very early.
I had some chances in gun season, but elected to pass because in Somerset county where we gun hunt they have slaughtered the does in the last couple of years and not let up on the anterless licenses. Things will be different this year. |
RE: Doe Balance thread
I took one last year, and one buck. This year I plan to take more both for herd well-being as well as for tasty grub. These Illinois deer are delicious!
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
3
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
One doe, one buck. Our herd isnt that out of whack. I want to keep it at about 2:1 so I can keep the freezer full in the upcomming years.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
just one last year

RE: Doe Balance thread
2
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
I shot one last year as well. Probably 2 or 3 this year hopefully.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Meant to shoot two. Turns out one was a button buck.[:@]
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
I didn't get any with my bow but our group got about 5 or 6 with the muzzleloader season.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
2 for me.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
2, it would have been more but I only hunted WI during the late season. The other places I hunt are buck only.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
0..... I didn't kill a doe last year, I let them all walk. In my area the herd doesn't need my help
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
10 here...my ratio was outta whack for my new area i was hunting so i took as many as possible...Had 2 more tags i coulda filled but didnt have the time.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Thats a LOT:)
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Yes it is! i had to give a lot of the meat away... I ran out of room to store it haha.

RE: Doe Balance thread
Well, this is might lead to one hell of a topic but why in Maryland , my home state I can harvest a infinite number of does as well as6bucks per season if I purchase the extra buck stampsbut states that are 20 and 30 times larger only take 2 to 3 per person.
And if your wonderin I took 11 does last season and 1 nice buck. The year before that was crazy,me and my brother arrowed 33 does and 5 bucks. I wont lie either that half of those deer had spots but that is what the property owners want. I also give all but 3 of my harvest to the homeless. |
RE: Doe Balance thread
I live in maryland also and wonder the same thing. It seems like other states limit there hunters to a low amount of deer that they can take. And maryland is not that big of a state.... Maybe its the deer population here or the number of hunters?
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Just 1 last year, but averaged 4 for the previous 3 years.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
Two and will be going for three this year...

Just because a state is bigger, does'nt mean the herd is. And I took 2 does, 1 buck. Perfect! |
RE: Doe Balance thread
Yea im thinking its because of our heard here in maryland B.Z. The heards here must be larger than in many of the other states. Or like i said we have less hunters.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
I usually shoot 2 or 3 a year, depending on tags and what not.
|
RE: Doe Balance thread
1 here last year and spent the rest of the season on a buck my main spot doest need the thinning about 2:1 right now but at my house its about 6:1 and needs it so i am inviting freinds for doe day 2007

RE: Doe Balance thread
You guys hunting in the "lot o does" states have my respect for doing what you're doing. I consider this to be my biggest shortcoming in bowhunting, so far......not learning how important this is, sooner.
My mind's in the right spot, this season....and it's a huge emphasis on does. Kudos to you guys with an action plan. Respect. Good luck, in '07 |
