Best Drop-away?

Am looking at getting a drop-away rest.

Just wondering(?)which do some of you shoot with and/or recommend for hunting.

I'm looking for a rest that is:

I want a rest that is rugged, trouble free, and hpoefully cradles the arrow nicely.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Its simple, its lightweight, it works without complications on all bows, and its absolutley reliable and proven! Its the Trophy Taker. I am shooting the Trophy Taker Shakey hunter. Check it out.

Good Luck!

PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE......SUCCESS!

Bullkllr, the only one I've had experience with is the NAP Quicktune. Both the 2000 and 4000. I prefer the 4000 for the micro adjustments. Easy to set up and reliable.

Gee this could get ugly

I would have to say the Muzzy Zero Effect.
I put it on my Pat a couple of weeks ago and am kicking myself that I did not put it on sooner.

sssssssss...that's the sound of the fuse on this thread!
Oh well, might as well stir the pot...

Beyond question and unequivocally the Muzzy Zero Effect is the best fall away rest on the planet!

Really though there are a few to look at...Trophy taker makes a good one, Golden Key, NAP, Muzzy, some like the Trap door inertia style. Most have their own opinions and it comes down to personal preference to some degree. You may want to wait till end of Jan-early Feb though, the GKF boys have been hot and heavy over some new drops for 2003. They should be "unveiled" at the AMO show and shipped soon thereafter. Might be worthwhile to wait. Shoot as many as you can and decide what your priorities are.:)

The montana black gold drop away is the only rest I would spend money on,that is designed to fall away.

There are no strings, levers, cables or chickens feathers with this one

If you want to get the best you can , take this info and go straight to the web site.

Can I mount all these rest at once.

RE: Best Drop-away?

The Muzzy is an excellent drop away rest. I think for the hunter it has many advantages over all the others. I also have a tophy taker rest I just mounted on a bow, so far it seems to tune well, but I still have not been able to get outside to do any long range shooting. It seems to drop everytime, and I am not getting any contact with 4" vanes. For a pure hunting rest I am going back to the more simple styles, but that is a personal choice. The zero effect would still be my first choice for the bowhunter.

Thanks for the responses! I figured there'd be a wide range of debate; that's ok, like to read more!

I like the simplicity of the Montana Blackgold (no cables, arms, etc.). But on that one and the Trohy Taker the launchers don't appear (?) to hold the arrow much...looks like a nice deep "V" on the NAPs. Any experience? Since its a "Drop Away" doesn't it seem logical to design something that's really going to hold the arrow in place since the launchers go away anyway? (I've been known to move around a bit with an arrow knocked, and I hate having 'em fall off the rest.)

Do these or the others, MZE, NAP, hold the arrow well, or is it about on a par with other "launcher" type rests?

RE: Best Drop-away?

After looking at others, I bought the Golden Key Premier Drop Away. This rest will lock in the up position, so there is nothing moving while you pull the arrow back. Then while you at full draw, the rest unlocks itself automatically and drops away when you shoot. I have never had a problem with it for hunting or practice for the two years that I have owned it. I use four five inch vanes, and do not have any contact problems.

RE: Best Drop-away?

I currently use the golden premier fall away on my 3-D bow. I have had great luck with it & it should make a fine hunting rest. I know a couple of guys who use the Mirage and they are very happy too. my local dealer sells a lot of trap doors but after testing it I found it wasn't for me when it came to hunting.

like anything else try before you buy. for hunting I still use a Royal 3-D rest (same as the 3-D Rover but different launcher arms). I have found for me it is the best hunting rest I have found. When it comes to hunting I like solid, sturdy, simple, and accurate.

RE: Best Drop-away?

Bullkllr, on my bows (NAP 4000) the arrow is not in the rest when it's down. There is a rubber piece to glue on the shelf. That helps hold the arrow when not drawn. As you draw, the rest picks up the arrow centering it in the prongs. It works pretty well.
