Switching Bow Brands
What does it take for you to switch bow brands?
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Less vibration, faster, quieter and more accurate and durable than my bowtech guardian.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Been shooting Hoyt for the last 6 years and have owned 6 different Hoyts and loved them all. It would be hard to imagine shooting something else. To answer your question though when I switched to Hoyt is was because of a customer service/limb issue with the brand of bow I was shooting.

RE: Switching Bow Brands
ORIGINAL: Kelly/KY Less vibration, faster, quieter and more accurate and durable than my bowtech guardian. I just did switch from Mathews to Bowtech about a month ago after shooting Mathews since 1996.. I shot most of the top bows and couldn't put the gaurdian down. |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I've been contemplating this same scenario right now. I currently shoot an Archery Research AR31. I have always owned PSE products since I started bowhunting. When I purchased the AR it only came with the 65% let off. Their newer models now have 80%. I called their cust. service the other day in an attempt at purchasing the newer cam and module. To my dismay, they told me that they won't just sell me the cam. The rep told me I should consider upgrading to a new bow. I thought about what he said and have considered going out and shooting the newer model Hoyts, Mathews, and Bowtechs. I shoot the AR fine and have been satisfied with it, I was just looking for some relief at full draw. Let me know some opinions.

RE: Switching Bow Brands
I really love Hoyt, but I'm not "loyal" to them, if you know what I mean. I almost bought a Cardiac a few weeks ago, but it just didn't perform as well as my Vectrix......All it would take is for the "new" bow to shoot and perform better than my current one.
I'm more about performance than brand, though sometimes it may not seem that way. :D |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Pretty simple really - it has to shoot noticably better than my current bow, and any other bows that I shoot. I'm not loyal to a brand, I'm loyal to performance.

It doesn't hurt when I shoot them all.......and then my shop owner makes me an offer I can't refuse.....to shoot the bow I want to shoot. |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Brand name does not affect me at all, as I am not loyal to any brand (yet:D)
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I have been shooting a bowtech for the last 4 years, I have owned 3 of them, but I am not loyal to them. When bowtech starts giving them to me for free then I will be loyal. I think that anyone who drops $800.00 on a new bow without shooting most of the new bows from the major manufactures is crazy. bottom line is I am going to buy whatever brand and model performs the best for me whether it Bowtech, Mathews, Hoyt or Ross
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
bottom line is I am going to buy whatever brand and model performs the best for me whether it Bowtech, Mathews, Hoyt or Ross I have to agree, except for the Mathews part. [:'(] |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Same as when I am shooping for a gun....thye one that givems the best bang for the buck. I am about performance not brand name....I shoot my Reflex and love it. Probably stick with them or Hoyt, but I am always open to a change.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I used to be a loyal customer of a certain brand. But they changed to a riser design I don't particularly care for. And compounds today are so close in performance and quality that I doubt I'll ever have that kind of brand loyalty again. Like said above, now it's whoever makes bows that give the best bang for the buck.
I really like the Bear TRX I got on closeout last year for $200. :) |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Oh young Dainial-son, you will learn.;)

RE: Switching Bow Brands
My soon-to-be cousin who i look up too had always shot Hoyt bows so naturally igot one, i cant ever see myself shooting anything.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
The brand of a bow means nothing to me. How a bow shoots for me is what I care about. No one is paying me to shoot their brand.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
The Hoyt and Bowtech guys are always saying look at my new hunting rig this year boys, it's the best ever. Us Mathews guys just say, yes thats a nice one friend I'll just keep shooting this junk Switchback again this year likeI have the last 5.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I am not now or have I ever been loyal to any company. I don't care as much as most about the performance of a bow, a car, a fishing reel etc. If I like it I like it and if I don't I don't.. it's just that simple.
I've always thought that alot of hunters put way to much insight on their bow and it's performance and not enough insight on their target animal.. but that's just me. |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Back in the 90's, I was a nut for high end graphite fly rods. Loomis, Scott, Sage, Winston, etc. Always trying and buying them. Still have over 20 and each one has a place in the fishing world. Some smoother and softer - some faster - some real fast. I see these bows as a similar comodity.
Right now, I have a Hoyt Pro Tec and a Fred Bear Element. Not much interested inseriously considering the purchase ofother bows at this point. Both of these shoot very well and cover all my hunting needs. |

RE: Switching Bow Brands
A better bow then I’m shooting now.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I'll just keep shooting this junk Switchback again this year likeI have the last 5. That's only because they never change anything. Their out of ideas. Only so much you can do with a decade old solo cam ad.:D |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
[/align] free no just kidding, something that really catches my interest! |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
Hey GERM; I started out shooting a golden eagle years ago, switched over to PSE,because 65% letoff.shot these a good while.then in 97 switched over to mathews for 80% letoff and it was just a superor bow.I am now in the process of buying a bowtech, but not because of the name. When i decided i wanted a new bow i shot all the top brands newest bows, hoyt, pse, mathews, bowtech, and decided on the commander from bowtech because it shot really well and had everything i was looking for in a bow, speed, comfort, queitness,it was a dream to shoot.point is when i buy a bow i buy what feels right for me at the time although i won't buy a bow if it feels good in my hands but does'nt perform up to my standards.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I love my bow - but I would drop it in a second if I thought it was going to be quieter, faster, and more accurate!
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I haveowned many different bows over the years, I hunted with a Browning for most of the 80's and 90's but have had other brands as well. To me it's what feels right and shoots well for me. I have a Fred Bear Code now and I plan on shooting it till I feel the need to change it......for whatever reason.
I will always have a soft spot for Brownings because it was the first compound bow I ever purchased (mid 80's)plus I hunt upland birds witha Browningand collect older Browning shotguns as well......gotta love them gold triggers! |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I really ever stick with the same brand because it doesnt matter to me, i shot a PSE the last 2 years and I currently shoot a Martin but i will most likely try another brand when i get a new bow.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
whichever I can get the best bang for my buck shooting a Renegade Tominator II right now I paid 300.00 for it. it shoot quiet, smooth, and fast. may not be as fast as some of the top bows out there But it has no problem delievering the arrow for a clean kill. And due to the fact that Im a tightwad I will be using this bow for a looong while.
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
gotta be comfy, quiet, and i have to have the cash to get it[:@]
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I buy whatever feels best to me. Right now that is bowtech.

RE: Switching Bow Brands
right now I gotta say i'm a Hoyt man however I like the feel of the Bears and alsothe Reflex lineup which is same as what i have pretty much. The Hoyts I have got to shoot always seem to be smoother and just feel "right". Now should I have a limb breakage issue or something like that things can change in a big hurry

RE: Switching Bow Brands
Gary - I'd say bang for the buck. If you have true brand allegiance, you're selling yourself short.
The archery world is like a real-life game of "king of the mountain"- and every few years, somebody does something that pushes them to the head of the pack. Usually, the king doesn't stay king for long, but they keep retooling and coming back, time and time again. Bear, PSE, Hoyt, HCA, Darton, Mathews, Pro Line, Martin, Bowtech, Wing, Oneida, Pearson, etc...- they've all been king for a day (or close). Everybody innovates- everybody puts out a competitive product. What does it take to change - for me, it's dollars and sense. I want a bow that outperforms my old one in every phase of the game (speed, components, brace height, noise, warranty) -and I want it for a fair price. I couldn't care less if it was built on the moon by a tribe of Oompaloompas. |
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I like who I like, but I'm not that brand loyal that I wouldn't try others. I am not one forhaving the most popular stuff, so pretty much eliminates bowtechs, hoyt & matthews from me even shooting them. Otherwise all else is fair game.

RE: Switching Bow Brands
I switched this yr from golden eagle to bowtech. No regrets!
|
RE: Switching Bow Brands
I have to laugh when this topic comes up. I posted not long ago about bows. They said mathews users have thier noses in the air but if you read these posts the ones taking shots aren't people using mathews bows. Like the one post hear said I will just keep using my switchback like I have for the last 5 years. I mean know harm to anyone but it is funny to read post here and some other sites about this topic. Mathews users do know they have one of the bset products out there we really don't have to explain that to anyone.

RE: Switching Bow Brands
Simply shot a Bowtech. They will be the household name as the cadillac in bows IMO very soon.
