They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
Okay im tyring to figure something out? I've read on here several times that 2blade broadheads will always penetrate better! Why is it that when Ted Nugent shoots a deer the arrow never goes through? Well at least ive never seen? Even if he is shooting a lighter weight bow, should there still be a problem?? Its really no big deal just thinking??? He is the only person i have ever seen shoot one?

He shoots plenty that go thru. Some don't but I do think he shootsa lighter draw and probably hits the opposite shoulder.

Maybe Nugent shoot that fat guy in the back of his head.

RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
The reason they say the 2 bladers penetrate better is because of less drag on the broadhead, less energy is needed to push the broadhead through the deer. One thing to keep in mind is that it may require less energy to get that two blade head through something, but there is going to be alot more drag on the arrow as compaired to a larger 3 blade head.

You must have seen the same epsidoe that I did yesterday. LoL. I am not sure about this. But he does shoot a very low poundage bow. i think he said 55lbs? or something like that.

I also watched the episode. He said he was shooting 55lbs. not to hijack, but after the episode i watched yesterday i lost a a lot of the repect i did have for ted nugent. but yes 55lbs.

Yeah i did see the episode yesterday that was actually one god shot he actually finally made, but thats what got me thinking about it???? I never hardly se him get pass thru shots? Maybe its just me? |
RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
I'm not sure if this is in line w/ your question or not.....but......
2 blade heads have less drag than a 3 or 4 blade head, so technically they would penetrate better. But I am of the opinion that today's bows are SO efficient, and produce such excellent KE that unless you are shooting really light poundage you have no penetration advantage anymore with a 2 blade... |
RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
There isn't any penetration issue when shooting "low poundage" 55 lb. bows. Particularly on deer. Vickie from "The Choice" shot through a moose with a 57 lb. bow. The velocity difference between a 55 lb. and 65 lb. bow, shooting the same arrow weight,is maybe 20 fps. So the pass through with the 55 lb. bow comes out the other side of the deer at 60 fps. - instead of 80 fps on the 65 lb. bow. Inconsequential.

RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
Everyone's definition is different, but I don't consider 57 pounds "low poundage" and you're right, that's not enough difference to matter too much....
BUT, you get into "low poundage, ie under 45 or 50 pounds, and it will make a difference. |

A two blade doesn't always penetrate better...always is a dangerous word to use. Too many variables. In general...yes...they should penetrate more because they typically have less cutting surface. |

RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
There is a reason MANY traditional shooters shoot a 2 blade head. They give the best chance at penetration at low KE.
Most modern compound equipment, its a moot point. |

RE: They say 2 blade penetration is better....?
I shoot a whopping 58#'s at 28 1/2" drawand MECHANICALS and have no problems with passthroughs.Of course my mechanicals are Steelheads and only have a 1 1/8" cut.
I have often wondered about some of his shots also. |
