Hunter Orange & Bowhunters
 

I've just taken up bowhunting this past year and haven't yet had to wear hunter orange while bowhunting. The weekend after Christmas will be a bonus gun doe weekend. No bucks can be shot with firearms but buckhunting with a bow is legal until the 31st. I plan to hunt with a bow the entire time just in case a good buck shows. I'm forced to wear hunter orange for the first time bowhunting and would like to get feedback from you guys if it's worthy of any worries on my part for upclose encounters with deer. I've already placed some orange in my stands to get the deer used to seeing it up there but is there any extra precautions I should take?

it depends on how much hunter orange you have to wear...do you have to be fully clothed in h/o or do you have to have a certain square inches of h/o?

Don't worry. I actually wear blaze camo and feel it is a much better camo pattern then the popular blobby stuff. Deer haven't noticed me yet because of the color. And you never know where you might end up if you have to track a deer so wearing it could come in real handy. Good Luck

oh and btw...deer don't see orange they see in shades of lights and darks and uv. so if you wear a cammo hunter orange suite it will break you up just as if you had that $400 scent lock suite in mossey oak on. you stated that you have hung hunter orange in your stand....if its solid h/o all you have done is created a "solid" light toned blob in your stand and may have done more harm than good.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Nodose we must wear a headcovering and upperbody orange totaling 400 sq in. Camo orange is ok but I don't have any greenbacks left for new hunting clothes this year. I'll get some camo orange for next fall. I also hung the orange 2 weeks ago so I betting they're used to it now just like they get used to anything else changing in their environment. I thought that was better than just showing up with orange for the first time hunting in it.

Bowdacious I live in Jenks, work in Tulsa and hunt primarily in Major and Woods county out west. Where are you from and what part of the state do you hunt? Are you tagged out?

During gun I wear a blaze orange hat in and out from my stand, once on stand I hang the hat directly above my head, I hunt private property only so I do not know what a game warden would say, but I would imagine nothing, but I could be wrong.

Tazman, I was hunting private land in Dublin GA, and had two guys walking down the powerline towards me. I hung my orange vest out my shooting house to alert them of my presence. Tuns out it was the law and yes they did sight me for not having my orange on. Can you believe that!

its all about movement! Look natural in your surroundings by picking proper stand locations and you could wear flame pink or your birthday suit. Keep movement to a minimum and you'll be just fine!
