Blazers and Broadheads
 

I was in a local archery shop a couple of days ago and a discussion ensued about the popularity of the Whisker Biscuit rest - as well as the compatibility of the 2" Blazer fletching with the WB. The consensus among those present was that, when it came to shooting fixed blade broadheads, you had better forget the 2" Blazers and fletch up with something more substantial.

I have shot the 2" Blazers extensively with field points and done some longer distance shooting with expandables - works pretty good. Any truth to the potential failings of this fletch with a fixed broadhead?

I've shot blazers with NAP nitrons, stingers and expandables and they all fly about the same. Blazers seem to steer broadheads well, that is assuming a well tuned bow.

That's the first time I've heard that about the Blazers and fixed blades. I believe that the higher profile and stiffer material were designed into the Blazer for stabilizing fixed blade broadheads.

I used Blazers with Wasp Sharp Shooters last year. Worked flawlessly and much better stability than the traditional 4-6" hunting vanes at the longer distances IMO.

I'd have to disagree with your shop as well. I've shot the following with very good to outstanding results with Blazers:

Slick Trick
Silver Flame
Turbos
Montecs
Strikers
Rocky Mountain Ti

Slick Tricks and Silver Flames are as accurate with my Maxima Hunter/Blazer combos as my field points. Give them and try and good luck.

i have to disagree as well. ive shot blazers with field points, mechanicals, muzzy 3blades, the sonic and libery from american broadhead co, rocky mountain premier 3 blade and all flew well out to 40yds. some minor barely noticeable differances...but i had them all on different arrows and would just grab an arrow and shoot...i had no problems with my blazers and flight...

Disagree, strongly. In fact, I don't disagree, I say that's completely innacurate. I've shot Stingers with blazers, and they are lazer beams. I know guys that shoot Rocky Mountain.....Oh, I forget......their 4 blade 100 grain fixed blade head very well with Blazers. I've seen Muzzy's shot with Blazers, Montec's, even junk Wal Mart heads shoot well......Blazers work every bit as good as a 5" feather with fixed blade heads, I've tested it myself.

It's not ALL the vane though. If your bow isn't tuned properly, and your arrow/broadhead combination isn't tuned correctly, it wouldn't matter what vane you chose......It just wouldn't work.

They will steer a Slick Trick as well as they do a field point;)

I have some arrows setup with blazers and a220grain Muzzy Phantom, a 2 blade broadhead w/bleeders. So far they are shooting great out to 30 yards ;)

I tested Blazers for the pro shop I was shooting for when they first came out. They did great with everything, up until I got to 125 gn non-vented 2-blade heads that measured 1 1/2" across. They wouldn't stabilize those for nothing.

Vented blade heads up to 125 gns and 1 1/4", no sweat. Excellent results. And I'm a diehard feathers guy, too.;)
