Building Arrows....need help on the checklist...
 

Alright, I'm going to build my own arrows since it's been so hard the last few years to get arrows made around hunting season. Not to mention now I have to have a arrow for the High Country, one for the Drenalin, and now a arrow for the fiance's Ignition.

So I placed a order from Cabela's and I need to know if there is anything I forgot?

Cabela's 5000rpm Arrow Saw
Jo Jan Multi Fletch w/ Staight Clamps
Two pks White Feathers
Two pks Realtree HD Blazers
Blazer Prep/Glue
Fletch Tight Glue
Insert Glue
Two pks Eat More Meat Wraps


Is there anything else I need to get besides the shafts?

Yea, a Norway zip strip for removing wraps and/or vanes. This product works awesome and is a must IMO. I can't recommend enoughthe Bitzenberger fletcher as the best fletcher on the market. Have fun. I would go with as helical fletcher and I use a right helical.




Another thing, go to a local vinyl graphic sign maker and get free scraps from him in your favorite colors. Cut with scissors or a draw knife and you have your wraps for free.

Only thing I'm wondering is what made you decide on a straight jig? I'd personally gone with a left or right helical.
Beyond that make sure ya get plenty of vanes, becasue you'll go through them faster than you think.

Yes Do you have your shafts???? And I would have got a right or left helical instead of a straight fletcher...

Well I have always had my arrows fletched straight.....no matter if it was feathers or vanes they have always been straight since I started archery 10 years ago.

Thanks for the tip about the wraps, and if anyone has anything they want to share then please do so....this week will be my first go around with fletching my own arrows.

I use the straight clamp with a "slight" off set with my Bitz. They come out nice and they fly very well.;)

MD i have found the fletch tite platinum work better than the goat tuff

If I was fletching with blazers only, then I would get a straight clamp and fletch them at an offset. I have triedblazers with the helical and the straight/offset and I think the offset works out better. You don't get much of a helical on 2" blazers but you can get a good offset. I have found the helical works best with 4"+ vanes or feathers. Helical works but I will be fletching any arrows that have blazers with an offset from now on.

As far as fletching glue goes I've recently switched to Loctite Superglue Gel Control. It is a bit thicker than most cyanoacrylic based glues. It spreads evenly and just works out a lot cleaner. It holds my Blazers to my carbon shafts and my feathers to aluminum just fine. And for $2.95 a bottle at Lowe's its a lot less spendy than the Goat-tuff I was using. EDIT: last week I purchased a Bitz after using a Jo-Jan for the past year. The Bitz is hands down the better jig. I have both in my shop now. The bitz is here for life, the Jo-jan is going to a friend.
