Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Approximately how many hours do you guys put into your pre-season work? This includes scouting, shed hunting for the purpose of scouting, practicing with broadheads, shopping, etc.
I did this in a poll format, as it will be easier for some to be honest |
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
56-65

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
In the summer I probably spend at least 20 hours a a week glassing deer and doing odds and ends for the upcoming season. It is my full time hobby.
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Over 75 hours, easy.

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Too many damn ticks to get out into the bush around here, don't enjoy picking them off me. I fish and shoot gophers(with my recurve)until July when the ticks are gone and this way I know what the farmers have planted and can start with food sources.

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Last summer I had spent about 45 hours scouting , but this year since I'm retired now I'll be out alot more.
Gotta tell ya guys , it feels real good knowing you got all the time you want to do the things you like best. |
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I voted 0ver 75. IT IS MY ADDICTION!!! My wife always tells me I am going to run off the road someday looking for deer.
If time spent here counts, you can double that.:D:D:D |
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I would have to say between driven to camp, shopping, shooting, checkingscouting pics, cleaning roads, bush hog an planting well over 75 hours.

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I voted too fast.
I spend way over 75 hrs if you count practice, tuning bh's and being in the woods. As I add new areas to hunt I 've learned to "speed scout" the old haunts , checking them for food sources and bedding areas to make sure they're in the samee general spots. New area's get more time but some get dumped if I don't find what I like to see. |

to many but not enough [&:]does that make sence??[&:]:D
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Over 75 hrs.

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I shoot my bows year-round but only because I enjoy shooting my bows. Most of my hunting is at my cabin which is a 2 1/2 drive each way.I don't spend any time scouting, planting foodplots or whatever.I have a few permanent stands, some ladder stands, and a couple of chain on stands that I might tweak before the season but that's about it
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Well I spend a few hours every week bowhunting hogs. Each one of those trips is a scouting trip. I also shoot my bow on a daily basis and pretty much just live a life that revolves around bowhunting, shooting my bow, working on equipment, etc. So I would have to say WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY over 75 hours.
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
well over a 100 hours
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Between driving to and from my place in PA, and Dan's place in NY and growing foodplots, hanging stands, making brush funnels and bedding cover in the woods, etc a TON. If I put in the same amount of time locally to my house glassing and knocking on doors to get permission I might have a few P&Y bucks on the wall by now, but my hopes are that eventuallywith some good management I will have my own little paradise down there in PA with very real chances to at least encounter some true slammers every year on MY property. It's getting there, another few years and I really hope to have something special for myself and my family and friends to share.

RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Last year I spent about asmuch time pre-season scouting, as I did in actual hunting...
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
There was no button for "zero"!
Normally I'd put if a lot of time, but this year I bought a new home and it has taken up all my time. I'll get out there but haven't been able to yet... |
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I spend over 75 hrs easily... probably double that!
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
Over 75 hours easy. When I'm not in the wood and the kid is in bed I'm obsessing over my gear. You'd be surprise how jealous a woman can get over a camoflauged object (or maybe you wouldn't).
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
I said 26 to 30, but if I added it up, its probably more than that.
|
RE: Pre-season Work ....... Time?
75 hours easy. I will spen 5-6 weekends simply scouting and hanging stands or moving stands based on what I find. This year I am preparign a food plot which requires a lot of time.
Like someone else said. Too much. but not enough. |
