Whitetail antler question.
 

When does a deers antler stop growing for the year, and how much will it grow between now and then? I am in Minnesota, if that matters.

usually by the middle to end of august theyll stop growing. they start growing as soon as they drop and ive heard theyll grow an inch a day with a healthy diet. im in okahoma and have trail cam pics of deer starting to grow horns back in march.

How much they will grow between now and then depends greatly on the deer's genetics, nutrition, and age. I would guesstimate that the racks are1/4 to 1/3grown at this time. Again, this will vary on location, etc.

Yes, here in Pa they stop growing around the latter part of August as well. Age, genetics and diet determine rack size.

By the middle of August here inN. Idaho whitetailbucks have finished up thegrowing process, as testosterone levels increase antlers harden and velvet is shed here starting in late August by the older mature bucks. By the end of thesecond weekof September almostevery buck in the woods is rubbed offand in hard antler.

usually around late august. I have been seeing some pretty healthy looking bucks already. I see one on my way to work every morning same time same place and you can already count the points on each side, he was huge last year and im expecting him to be even bigger this year. I will see if I can manage to get a pic of him on my way in to work. back in Jan when I almost hit him he was standing no more than 2 feet infront of my car and stood there for like 2 minutes before walking off I counted a total of 9 points on each side. 18 points and am guessingat least a 23 inch inside spread and massive heavy rack, he didnt get that big by being stupid. And id really hate to see someone hit him with their car or truck, What a waste of beauty that would be.

About the same here north of the border. I think a lot of people have the misunderstanding that they grow right up until they shed their velvet. From my understanding, it takes about 3 weeks for the antlers to harden, then the velvet shedding begins.
