Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
I posted earlier about the Beman ICS and after doing some furthur reading and research, I have decided against them, however, I have become very interested in the Carbon Express Maxima arrows. Seems like it would be one awesome arrow to shoot, but is the durability there in the Maxima that is found in the Gold Tip XT arrows? The Maxima seems to be priced quite a bit more than the Gold Tip and was wondering if anyone has pros / cons on these two arrows. I am shooting a Mathews Outback (2005 I think) single cam with a 28" draw and 60 lb draw weight. I know I will use the Blazer vanes with wraps made by bowmanhunter. Should I look at the Maxima 250 series or the 350 series? I am currently shooting the Gold Tip 5575. Thanks for the info and help...I appreciate it.

RE: Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
Man I am not sure on this. I have shot GT XT for several years with no problems. They are fairly tough. Not cinder block tough but they do the job.
I really have never had any "bad" carbon arrows. I have always shot the hunter models so to speak. Gold tip is a good arrow. I am sure Carbon Express is good also. From whatI understand many are made from the exactsame material and methodand possibly from the same manufacturer. And the straightness. Any carbon arrow with its straightness is more accurate than I am..006 or .004 or whatever it is. Had toedit sorry. Just curious, have you had problems with the GTs? |
RE: Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
Keep your GT's and buy nock pins and pin nocks for the end. I was thinking about the Maximas because of the bull nock collar. However, I keep seeing broken maximas in the barrel at the range. The XT Hunters work just as well as the Pro's.
Buy yourself some nock pins and pin nocks. It's a $15 investment that works better than any bull nock and it used on comeptetion grade arrows from GT and Easton. I've installed the nock pins and it's saved me a probably $60 in arrows. The field tips glance off the nock pin and do no damage. |
RE: Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
I bought the Maxima's last year and I was dissappointed in their durability and their accuracy. Carbon Express did replace one of the premature failures. A lot of folks have had good success with the Maxima'sbut I prefered my XT hunters from the year before. I will be going back to GoldTip's - pro hunters if the budget will allow.

RE: Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
I'd say the Gt's or the Easton arrows are among best out there. I have a friend who shoots Gt's and he loves them, won't shoot anything else.. I personally shoot the AC/SS's, but I'm partial to Easton.
I think the Maxima's are too light and I don't like the weight forward thing, I have seen them have way too much FOC on the tip because of this.. But then again it depends on the setup like most everything. Which one do you think sounds the best? Weight, Price, Straigtness, all things considered? |

I HAVE USED GOLDTIP ARROWS FOR YEARS, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, THEY ARE PRETTY TOUGH!!!;)

I love my Maxima Hunter arrows.
Of course, Gold Tip makes great arrows as well. Tough choice. I'd go with the Maxima's myself but I stock them For your setup the 250's would be what I would go with. If you want the .001 straightnes, CX makes the Maxima 3D Selects They are about the same price as the Maxima Hunters |

i shoot gold tips there awsome

RE: Gold Tip XT or Carbon Express Maximas
I also have CX 3D selects. Great arrows. However, I've busted the ends of them. Hence, my preference for the much cheaper and just as accurate (for me) XT Hunters with nock pins.
Both manufacturers make good arrows. It's all a matter of preference. If you buy the Xt hunters make sure to cut about 3/4" off the nock end and they will be just as straight as the Maximas. |
