I think you can tell by the picture that as an NFL O-Lineman you need to have very strong neck and shoulders. When I was playing I could behind the neck press (sitting) 350lbs with no problem. I would work out with 315lb all day long (that's three plates on each side of an olympic weight set for those of you "in the know")

My bench warm-ups would go as follows: one plate on each side (135lbs) 20 reps, two plates on each side (225lbs) 20 reps, three plates on each side (315lbs) 10 reps, four plates on each side (405lbs) 10 reps. That was done just to warm up the muscles, then I'd start my work out.;)

Of course, that's when I was 22 and not 42. Now I just keep the weights at a reasonable level to stay in shape. I'll still do my warm up routine but I've dropped the reps and don't gosuper heavy after that anymore....got nothing to prove.

Just in case anyone was wondering this was all done 100% natural, I didn't even take over the counter supplements or anything. I'm proud of what I accomplished and believe me it took YEARS of hard work, sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears. Looking back on it I can't believe I even did it, I know I couldn't now.

I was blessed with a good solid base to work with, I've never had trouble putting on weight (just the opposite:D) Even during two-a-day practices when others would drop 20 and sometimes 40lbs I'd lose like 5lbs...just the way I was I suppose.

Now I'm just trying to keep the bulges where there supposed to be!:D

Big12 sure easy to tell you are all natural.

Being a trainer I can spot the user real easy. You have great balance through out your body. Just take a look at a know users and you can tell real easy. Like a puzzle the pieces will not fit!!

Here is a great example Big was 300 pounds in HS 325 while he played, and now is 325 pounds after being retired for serveral years.
Look at Howie Long it is the same thing. 264 while he played and now he is 262 pounds.
Now look at Mark M. from cardinals he is 40 pounds lighter, not hard to tell why;)

Post a pic of me, but don't wana look too small, LOL

Wait until Barry Bonds retires, LOL

BigJ71 06-06-2007 03:53 PM

RE: Let's see your mugs!

Germ,

Serveral years????? I've been retired for a lot longer than that.:D:D:D

Speaking of Howie Long....he was the first person I ever went up against in the NFL (from another team). We were playing the Raders(pre season) and for some reason (he did this seldom but still did it) he lined up at tackle instead of his normal end position. Well everbody is staring at me in the huddle (most of us were rookies) and I can't quite figureout why. Well then I look up and there he is just standing there with his hands on his hips in that classic "Howie Long" pose.....in the tackle position, kinda smiling at me,and I thought "I'm dead......I'm dead...." Well thankfully it was only four plays so the beatdown didn't last too long (no pun intended) I did learn one thing from my Howie encounter and that was.... big fat Itallian guys can indeed fly! My coach said I did a good job against a future Hall of Famer (he got that part right at least:D)but I just wanted to crawl under a rock and hide during the film meeting.

As the years go by though I'm getting better and better. Who knows in about 20 more years, I will be kicking his butt all over the field!

John,

I've gotta say... I've always loved hearing of your exploits and stories over the years... You let us in on some of the cool things without a hint of ego, yet you're obviously proud of what you accomplished -- and very rightfully so. I'd love to share a deer camp with you sometime and just sit around and listen...

Actually Barry is on HGH you will not see him shrink when he retires. If anything, you will see him get fat if he let's his training subside. The gains from HGH are not likea "test" based steroid. The gainsare slower and more permanant due to the increased levels of IGF-1. It also has a big fat-burning effect.
I also doubt that you can spot the user easily..you can however, spot the abuser easily..there is a difference.

Damn I must be late to the party!........I was thinking BigJ HAS TO BE an ex-NFL player. My first thought (no offense was Tony Siragusa:D)
You just look so familiar too, maybe the giant Italian guy thing.;)
For those of us not in the know can you give us a quick rundown of who you played for and when?

Congrats on all of your accomplishments, that does not come easy and without sacrifice.

Hey we have some Bigun's on HNI!! Maybe we could get everyone together at the HNI camp someday and play a little pick-up game.

I tell ya! I need to shoot a frickin 200in deer just so it will look like a normal deer in the pictures.

To give you all a size comparison, my brother (the one in the cowboy hat) is 6' 2" and 245lbs (bout the size of an NFL Linebacker)
