The Hankerin' for Tinkerin'... Arrows
 

So lately I've been bitten by another archery bug, the want to check out some new stuff... just for fun.

I want to buy some new arrows that will be strictly for target shooting whether it be 3D, Vegas, or 5-Spot. I'll still shoot my Axis for hunting, that's not debatable ;). Honestly, I haven't spent much timeshooting any "fat shafts" and would kind of like to have some just because... (okay, I don't really have a good reason)

So my question is which (fat)arrow do you guys like? I've looked at Easton Fatboys, CXL's, and a variety of GT's but can't really decide what I want to buy.

Your thoguhts are appreciated!

Everyone I've talked to who shoots them loves their Fatboys.

I haven't shot them personally, so takethat commentfor what its worth.

I am in the same situation as you, plan on using my FMJ's for hunting. But am looking for a lighter arrow for 3D. My FMJ's are 11.1 gpi. I know I could gain some speed and forgiveness on the 3D course with something lighter.

I will be keeping an eye on this one.:eek:

Give the GT Pro 22's a good look. They are light at 7.2 gpi and shoot great. They are pretty tough too as long as you keep them in the foam and out of the rocky soil behind the target.:eek:

You just couldn't go wrong with any of those choices....But I think you GOTTA at least look at the CXL's......Carbon Express really makes amazing arrows.

The only downside to the CXL is their wall thickness, they are really thin. They even say NOT to use them for hunting, which makes me leary about shooting them into a target......much harder than a deer. For that reason I shoot the 3D Selects.

How much weight do you pull, what is your draw length, and what classes of competition would you want to shoot in?

My draw is set at 68lbs and 29". I've been shooting Bowhunter FreeStyle or Advanced hunter class depending on what type of shoot it is.

Dan, that's what I'm leaning towards but I like the GT's as well.

Mobo,I did shoot some CXL 250's a couple years ago but they were so fragile that I got rid of them after the first shoot. My buddies like to play bumper arrows...

I have shot about all the fat shafts at one time or another.... The Fatboys were probably the worst tolerances of any of them.... I am telling you with no lie not one of them spun true on my arrow spinner. This was when they first came out maybe they have changed them up a little since???


If you can swing the spine of a 22 Series Ultralight Pro there is no finer fatty to shoot. I even hunt with them.

I've been checking them out as well, I'm just unsure as to whether or not the spine will be okay. And I honestly don't have any idea as to whether or not the Fatboys have changed since the beginning of production.

29 and 65-70 for target.

What bow are you shooting now?
